Nice! Once again, love the hair (I should just add that as a note on all of your stuff :-P ). I love the books, too; I know I should've stuck it out to the end (I'm bad about finishing book series...sorry, HP), but the first, oh, nine books from Miserable Mill on were kind of formulaic, though I might feel that way because the first three books were in the movie (which I love, too - pretty stylish, especially the credits!).Β

Tim Curry could have been a good choice for Count Olaf. Don't get me wrong, I like Jim Carrey in that role. But it could have been interesting if he was to be played the one who narrated the Series of Unfortunate Events on CD.

Quite personally the movie adaptation kinda ruined the entire book series reputation. The books were my nostalgia and when the movie came out almost 10 years ago I liked it in a blind manner, because I do indeed like Jim Carrey as an actor. However the series is NOT suppose to be a funny story...it is SUPPOSE to be dark not have *sees Olaf acting like a dinosaur*.....THAT . I do believe if this series was given to a person that wouldn't be afraid to make it darker (I kinda wish Tim Burton took control of the movie ) I would've loved the movie more than just a pain in the nostalgia. I mean if it was good we would've had the other books into a movie am I right? But then again there are 13 books so I would figure that would be too much. It's just a personal take on it
Β
but aside from that great picture!

I enjoy the movie; it's a good laugh and I love the music. But it's true that the series is not supposed to be funny. I think Tim Burton would be the perfect choice to direct a film series for ASOUE. The books, especially the illustrations, had this Burton-esque quality that I couldn't ignore.

OhhhhhFRICK! I remember these stories!

I remember my teacher reading them toΒ our classΒ back in Elementary School - they are all right. Never did see the movie.
Β
Excellent sketch! Your distinctive art style would be fitting for an animated adaptation of the stories.

It completely baffles me how some people don't like Jim Carrey. When I see a post telling about how he's a terrible actor the first thing I think is "HOW DARE YOU?!"

Jim Carrey did Olaf in the way he was portrayed in the later books-and his affinity for disguises, but thats about it. He did get close-probably the closest anyone will, but not all the way. He just doesnt have that...deep cruelty in his acting to fully portray Count Olaf to a perfect T.

That is true; I acknowledge it and accept that. I do find Jim Carrey's portrayal accurate to what was in the last few books, but you're right; he lacked the cruelty.

count Olaf is fascinating and Jim Carrey did alright, but didn't do the count justice. I've always been disappointed that only the first few books made it to the movies and the rest never made it to the cinema.
Β
I do love your rendition of him.

Thank you! I really think they should give making a film series another try; it's a fantastic story filled with utterly intriguing characters in a unique and fascinating world. There's so much that can be done!

You're welcome. And I totally agree. It was really something nick could have taken off with and made amazing, but they just backed out too quick. I don't even remember it getting bad ratings when it came out. I enjoyed it and would scan the previews and posters for the next, but it never showed.
Β
Seems they weren't ready to go "dark" at that point. Perhaps someone else will pick it up and do better.

When I found out it was a Nickelodeon picture, I knew not to expect the fully dark and gloomy nature of the books. They captured some of it, but to a degree.
Here's hoping that somebody will step up.

yeah nickelodeon pictures have never been...well really worth it until that movie and Rango. Everything else was just kind of a sick sad joke.
