I realize that I probably should have spent the last four hours doing school projects, but I really wanted to do another entry for the Villains Gone Good contest and I was feeling especially artsy today. After finishing my first entry, I have been debating between whether to do a scene from Ratatouille or Up, and as you can see, I chose Ratatouille. Ratatouille is my all time favorite Disney movie: I can quote about 99% of it, and I've listened to just the soundtrack more than I can count. I also just love some of the Gusteau quotes. Anyway, back to the picture. Although I did my first entry the digital way, I wanted to do my second entry traditionally, since it is the medium I am most confident in. I sort of went crazy with the details from the cutting board to the spices, but I hope that it doesn't take away the main focus on Chef Skinner. The main challenge of this piece was the fact that I don't think I've ever really tried to draw from this style of animation, and for some reason I had a lot difficulty with Remy's eye. In the end, I'm happy with how Chef Skinner turned out, although I didn't have the exact color for his skin tone.
I imagined that Chef Skinner actually finds out about Remy, and after Linguini stutters through a quick explanation, Skinner's heart is softened (think Grinch). Not much later, Remy is free to walk around the kitchen and Chef Skinner actually asks Remy for help with his soup, offering the mixing spoon to Remy for him to use his acute sense of smell. Alas, if the story had ended this way the movie would not have been interesting, and the movie would have been super short. But I can dream.
