Description Taken after the sun set, this completed the evening that my previous two submissions were shot on:
- Canyon Sunset
- Rainbow Over Desert View

The day was stunning, to say the least.

I have several other shots near this location, but this was one of the more elaborate bolts. If you guys like this stuff, I may have one more to show.

I have been curious about those. What lightning detector do you use?

I really envy you Westerners. Here on the east coast, the air's too humid to catch distant rainy spots, etc. I've got to head out there sometime to see what I can find...

Everyone's got to at least visit the Grand Canyon once in their life, if nothing else.

this photo is so amazing, that sure is a hard photo to capture did you have one of those lightning sensors in your shoe mount? or were you just really pacient, either way this photo is awesome, really awesome!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rhavethstine In reply to photolitherland [2007-04-20 05:20:28 +0000 UTC]

Nope, no lightning sensor. This was a good old fashioned long exposure. That's the best way to shoot lightning in the late evening/night, afaik. The lightning sensors are nice for daylight shooting I'd imagine, though I've never used one.

This was taken this last July, 2006, during the monsoon season. I'm rather surprised to hear that you caught much weather during October. We've been very dry for quite some time. Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks! I think that's a great way of judging whether a photo is successful or not. Would you hang it on your wall in the living room? Yup? Then it's all good.

Absolutely stunning! Thunderstorm and it's "natural surrounding" at the same time...and lightnings crashing into the ground...all visible...so, great composition

I've heard much of this mythical Burger King. What, are they like the premier art collecters in the Verde Valley?

My mistake, not the cover photo. A two page spread in Jan. 2006 (pg. 55).

woah.. this one is just wonderful. The lightning and combination of sharpness realy does it for me ... if it could be possible to post a wallpaper version (I have dual TFT), i would defenatly use this as my wallpaper

Sorry it's taken me so long to reply. I haven't had the time to mess with making a wallpaper lately. What size desktop are you running? I'll see if I can get this done tonight if you can give me the size.

Wizzkid007 In reply to Rhavethstine [2006-10-06 21:22:03 +0000 UTC]

i'm pretty late myself, so i hope you're still reading this . I'm running my desktop on 2x 17" TFT's, thats 2560x1024, or something in that range so i can resize it myself.

Thanx for responding!

This is absolutely gorgeous. Everything in this photo collaborates to draw your eye all over it: the lightning in the distance which looks like a tunnel opening to another world or dimension, the bush that I feel like clinging to for support (as it's close by and on my level), the grand cliffs with beautiful coloration and what seems to be a faint light source [coming from your left] pausing at the rocky foundation.

It all comes together wonderfully
