Like I said, there are a few postings in my scrap folder (also in my gallery, collected under the folder "Sculpting Tools, Techniques, WIPs") that should answer those questions.
The materials listed in that section are pretty much what I use now, and are very similar to the materials used in the tutorial I linked in my first reply.
If you want to know what you need to get started, that's easy. You need clay (such as super sculpey or sculpey firm), armature wire, some tools to shape, smooth, carve and detail the clay, a base for your sculpture, and a concept in mind that you'd like to sculpt.

what material do you use for your sculptures?

I use a polymer clay called sculpey firm. It hardens at low temperatures (275 degrees Fahrenheit) in a regular oven.

I'm glad to hear you're such a fan of this dude!
I'd be willing to part with him. Make me an offer via note; I'll consider it and get back to you either way. Sound good?

The expression on it's face gives it character and a funny personality to him/her. Just curious when you paint your sculptures do you use black as a base color or does it depend on the animal for the color?

Thanks!
I prime my sculptures before painting, so they start out a pretty neutral gray. The base color depends on the predominant color of the animal. With most pieces, I try to pick a color and a value that are mid-range if possible--right in between the darkest and lightest areas of the coat and then go from there. Of course, I also work in very, very thin layers of paint, so any changes I need to make are pretty easy to do. This also ensures that when I'm using a paint brush (as opposed to an airbrush), I don't leave brush marks or blobs of paint.

Your welcome
Thk you very much! I'll have to keep this in mind when I finish my lioness. I usually don't work very very thin with paint but I'll do this from now on. Now i must work! Hope to see new sculptures soon!

Thanks!
I'm kind of attached to this one, but you could definitely commission me to do another. Send me a note and let me know! Something this size would be pretty expensive, but I can definitely work smaller.

Lovely piece! I like that though the proportions are quite stylized, it's still very, very hyena.

Looks totally awesome! My favorite part is his eyes. They're creepy, in a good way. Of course, the spots and the gradient of colors are really cool, too.
