Description Lola affectionately refers to her oversized clodhoppers as her "Adventuring Boots". Unbeknownst to her, they'll be living up to that name pretty soon
---

Attire within the esteemed Forzrath Scholam isn't as strictly regulated as one might think. Indeed, with so many students from the beastkin, humans, and faebloods of Ballan filling up the classrooms, maintaining a coherent line of uniforms quickly becomes more trouble than it's worth for the faculty. As a result of these circumstances, Headmasters of the Scholam have only enforced a hand full of rules regarding the dress code--the most prominent of which are a mandatory tabard-longcoat and sash.  These two garments are the only real uniform of the Scholam, and a great deal of freedom is further allowed the students in what ways these vestments of knowledge are worn.

The sash, officially known within Scholam walls as "the Philosopher's Cincture", is the most important of the two. They were implemented in honor of the Scholam's legendary founder: Relim Forzrath, and imitate the original Philosopher's Cincture that he was said to have worn. In wearing this simple article of clothing, it signifies one's devotion to the pursuit of knowledge and identifies them as a practitioner of the Arts of Forzrath. Color, patterns, and emblems all greatly vary from sash to sash--and are even worn by the faculty. As a result it is easy to tell an arcanist's power based on the look of their sash. Student and Apprentice cincture colors range from: Gray, Brown, Green, Blue, and Red in terms of lowest to highest rank. Accomplished arcanists and wizards are granted Purple cinctures upon completion of their training, and many continue to undergo advanced studies in order to earn the much coveted White sash. Every Headmaster however, both former and current, proudly wears the Black Philosopher's Cincture. These in particular are said to be woven with the intent of being exact replicas of the late Relim's own keepsake, and are given only to true paragons of knowledge.

Lola herself has advanced as far as she can, being a student, and wears her uniform with an accomplished satisfaction. The rest of her attire however, looks far better suited for an extended trek through the wilderness rather than a study session in a library. Wishful thinking on her part, perhaps...

Heyo! I wanted to get Lola's design sorted since she's been the member of the main cast that I've been asked the most "what does she look like?" questions about. Also gives me another excuse to drop some possibly spoilery snippets of lore via flavor text. Fun! One thing I didn't mention is that as a practitioner of the Arts of Forzrath you're ranked not only by your sash color (think belts in martial arts), but also by the number of diamonds you have embroidered upon it.  Five is the maximum you can snag before being eligible for the next color.

Headmasters don't follow the diamond rule though, as this whole system was implemented after Relim disappeared to seek out more knowledge centuries ago, and the black sash replicas are accurate to the thread count...save that the modern ones have gold embroidery and the original was said to have white embroidery. So, if you're out and about, keep an eye out for that legendary Black Philosopher's Cincture with the White embroidery because it's probably worth something to somebody. ; )

Truly you need proper adventuring clogs to stomp about the vast archives of this school.  And the only reason.

If nothing else they're handy for squishing bookworms.

Probably both, given how heavy they are. Shoes designed with ominous versatility, no doubt.

(Ominous versatility sounds like something you'd see on a ghost's resume)
