Description This is my 21st ring sculpture. It was constructed with 14 and 12 gauge copper rings of various ID. Internal and external balls were constructed with a chainmaille weave called "captive orbital hex cage". The two balls are connected with a "captive inverted round" tetrahedron". Internal ball was chemically patina'd and is an exact replica of the outer. All elements are handmade from standard wire stock and are hand polished without the use of any powertools. It's roughly 12"x"12"x12"

I dont know what a captive orbital hex cage , or a captive inverted round tetrahedron is, but i like it! that red color and aqua color go good together.

It looks like a molecule! Love the contrast between the natural copper and the green patina.

You seem like a guy who'd be interested in heat patinas and japanese patinas.

Wow... I love the colors (and of course the detail is always impressive). Copper is my favorite metal, while the blue patina is the perfect balance.

O_o

I... just... wow. Wow. Wow. Normally I can comment, rather than just drooling like everyone else does. But this...

Wait, wait, no... I've got a question! Hah! Did you patina the inner rings before weaving or after? I'm guessing after, but if you did, then how'd you keep gunk from building up in the creases?

Thks for the comment. I use an old cologne bottle full of my patina chemical so it applies a really fine mist and do multiple coats, takes a while... I built the inner then built the outer minus a hole big enough to fit the small and finished the outer.

Ahhh. Sounds like you might have a problem with the cologne bottle clogging, what with the grainy nature of most patinas. Do you mix your own or order then pre-mixed?

I always mix my own patina goop, pretty simple actually. (ammonia, sal-am and water). Goes on perfect and never clogs.

*nodnod* Mixing your own is a good way of doing it.

Rescyou In reply to HeavyHips [2006-08-30 05:35:43 +0000 UTC]

Tks for the comments. I haven't sold anything as of yet, couldn't even fathom a price as I dunno how much time it took as I work on many all at once, so for now I have many sculptures hanging out in my house.
