Alright, I had some time to get this out so I worked on the sketch study for Gyaos to tide you guys over till the next SD entry. Gyaos is to Gamera what King Ghidorah is to Godzilla. Doesn't matter how many die, or how many times, these cannibalistic bastards live to make Gamera's life a living hell. There have been numerous incarnations of Gyaos over the years but the basic idea is the same. Spade head, fanged mouth, pterodactyle wings, paddle tail and a sadistic attitude. They're a lot like prehistoric, vampire harpies without the tits. So, lets get to the disection shall we?

Showa:
To be completely honest, I've only seen a tiny snippet of Showa Gyaos, but its an image that stays with you. Most of the Showa era Daihei monsters were pretty campy looking. They all have this glass eye, cartoon look to them and little in the way of texture and details. This is the foundation of Gyaos's character so its worth taking a look at. We have the spade head, which is broader than it will be later. The body is made for a suit so its forced to adhere to human anatomy. That eye seriously makes him looked stoned. I did what I could here with an actual iris there but it didn't help his vacant stare any. His original color is grey, not too intimidating but its functional.

Heisei:
Ah Heisei, now it gets interesting. Heisei I think I has the best head and details. This where the red and purple coloration come in. His whole bio got a rework so he's now a cannibal ancient bio weapon made by Atlantis or something. It should also be noted that there are many, MANY Gyaos. Not just one or two at a time like the showa. Its a whole damn flock of these things decending on humanity, and growing too. The emergance of Hyper Gyaos came from this era and it did some awesome shit. The wings are a tad fragile and tiny but considering that there are so damn many of these things, thats alright. This Gyaos is much more viscious and blood thirsty and he would set the tone for the rest of Gamera's Heisei run. The spade head is sharper and everything is leaner and more fluid anantomy-wise. Fragile, but deadly.

World Tour:
I'm not sure where this Gyaos came from exactly, I just know that someone, probably a fellow deviant, drew this bastard ontop of a pyramid and it was awesome. This Gyaos has an odd profile if that made me do a double take when I drew it. Rather than pterodactyle, this Gyaos is very bat-like. Its crest almost looks like ears and it doesn't have a snout or beak. It has armored schutes down its chest and its got all the basic Gyaos parts like the wings, paddle tail, and the spade head. It has the same coloration as the Heisei too so that stays consistent. This Gyaos really brings out that swarm monster vibe.

Anime:
Oh boy, here's a real doozy for you. Another creation of Matt Frank, Anime Gyaos is basically what she'd look like in an animated series, complete with magical girl transformations and the power of friendship. This version is a definitely she. Yeah thats right, no gender neutral A-sexuality for you! Teamed up with an elitist emo chick named Yoko, Gyaos is effectively the queen bitch of the series. She's out to fuck up the good guys and looking out for number one. She's completely crimson and she's armored to the hilt. That spade head has become more like an arrow head and she's a pretty tough looking gal. No idea what those vents on the sides are for. I label this one the 'vampiric countess' because her whole look just screams vampire and unlike Gyaos's previous incarnations, she looks like she could take quite a few hits and return the favor with interest. A very powerful and aggressive looking design for Gyaos. Streamlined in the detail department for animation purposes but you get the idea.

Well, time to pick and choose guys. What parts of each one are awesome and which parts have you tearing your eyes out of their sockets. The Hybrid comes from all the good aspects you guys generally approve of so have fun, be honest and tell me what you think.
