My preferred version of Gyaos isn't asexual and is like this:
Females would look like the Heisei version and Males looked like the ones from World Tour.
Abilities: Laser
Fog attack to put out flames and block out the sun
regeneration
Weaknesses: Nocturnal
Hates fire
regular Gyaos are weak on their own
The Anime version is their queen with all of her powers that you mentioned

He did about three other entries aside from Gamera. One was Gyaos and the other two were a combo of Barugaron and Zedus and an original kaiju that was a bipedal white tiger thing. Jedagon and Bakoro respectively.
Most of those disappeared when he redid his whole gallery about a year ago. He may bring them back up and updated when he gets back to the series again. I can't link you to any place that still has them up.

Showa and World Tour Gyaos FTW. They don't scream "RODAN!" like the others do, especially World Tour.

Yeah... The entire armor aspect on a Gyaos just screams "RODAN" to me, especially with that chest plate, and the more arrow-y the head crest gets, the more it starts to resemble the two horns on Rodan's head. Gyaos isn't supposed to be armored. Period.
The red color also didn't help any considering Rodan got that covered in '93 also. The purple/gray color scheme, IMO, would deffinetly be the best, opposed to the Rodan Red. The entire head crest looks the best on the Showa and WT versions also, so yeah...

Ah, so its the armor too. Yeah, defeats the purpose of having to rely on agility and lasers to win fights when you have body armor.

I like the look of Anime's wings, in my mind most of the Gyaos always had wings that looked slightly too small for them or just didn't quite seem right.
And if you are queen bitch of the skies, you need a big wingspan to feak out your lunch on the ground.

I just remember reading about how he wanted to do a bunch of monsters in famous locals. His Manda drawing around the statue liberty is another example. I don't think he submitted any other monters using that theme, tis a shame really.

The Gameranime version is rather good, but I wouldn't mind some form of hybrid between the four.

I'd pretty much go for a straight Heisei version - particularly based on the main adult Gyaos in Gamera: Guardian of the Universe. I'd definitely try to emphasize the feminimity of her, though, since the Heisei Gyaos was the first monster to be played by a female suit actress. Also, while I'm not a hundred percent sure on this, one of the Showa Gyaoses had blue skin (or at least very dark, bluish gray), while another (the one in Gamera vs. Guiron, I believe) had the light gray. So I might homage that blue color by giving the Gyaos a mainly red body with a blue strip or something.

Sounds like a pretty cool idea. Heisei definitely had it going on with the sheer impact of Gyaos's predatory personality. Gyaos has lots of different versions, the last one that wasn't showed I think was the Albino Gyaos that actually killed Gamera and then got his ass blown up after Gamera ressurected himself. Space Gyaos, Two headed Gyaos...it goes on for quite a bit.
Was the there anything from the Anime version that was appealing or that you disagreed with?

There's nothing I especially liked or disliked about the Anime version - it's not the perfect Gyaos, but it makes sense considering the concept of a Gamera anime. I do like her proportions, though, particularly the wing to body ration - she looks capable of flight while still able to kick ass.

The World Tour pic is from a rather talented fellow who goes by the title of Invictus. He's got a gallery at Kaijuphile here: [link]
He's got an account on DA too, if I recall correctly, but I think he only has a few of his deviations up. I don't think he visits here often.

Ah, so all of those were his too. Shame he doesn't pop in more often, he's pretty talented. With the second sketch study for Gyaos I'll try to remember to list his user name at least for the World Tour version.
So, whats your take on Gyaos?

Personally, I'd go with something based heavily on the Heisei version. I'm curious as to what that Gyaos would look like if it were blue like the Showa one... I think there's a "Hyper Gyaos" or something that's like that, but I havn't seen much of it. Anatomy wise, though, I'm a big fan of the Heisei incarnation, especially the design of the head. Giving it a wingspan closer to the anime version would be good though, the bigger wings would help it look more believable in flight. A little bit of everything, really, haha.

Tyrantis reccomended a stripe or pattern of blue ontop of the red, the idea tickles my fancy since that would make it a true hybrid of sorts. I'll definitely merge most of the good features from all of them.

Personally, I love all of them.
For what it's worth, the Heisei Gyaos had the same bat-like vibe as the World-Tour one. It just wasn't as instantly evident. The crest still looks like a set of ears and the beak is almost nonexistent.
The anime one is pretty sweet too. I think it does a great job with what it's supposed to be. I would take the anime base and apply some Heisei texture and musculature to maintain the feel.
Just for lulz, you COULD also give her big stoned, Showa-eyes. XP It's hard not to love the stiffness of the original.

I'ld base most, if not all, of the design on the Heisei Gyaos, it just seems the most iconic. Maybe some touches from the anime version though.
