Umm... These R-CADS (Ranged-Close Assault/Defense Systems) already have built in beam weapons. While the power requirement and weight are kind of high, even for a CADS set, the R-CADS were designed for the Dragoon's capabilities.
Armor: Extra Heavy Cyclone (sacrifices some speed and agility for ability to take hits)
Primary Weapon: Dual Cannon Mount (Either Plasma, Particle, or Pulse Laser type)
Secondary Weapons: R-CADS
Tertiary Weapons: Mini-missile Launchers (variable load-out), 32 total with standard launcher modules, 12 plasma and eight other if all four S-MML-6 launcher modules are swapped out for P-MML-3 launcher modules. Strut S-MML-4 launchers cannot be swapped for a plasma load.
Given it's relatively low speed and agility. combined with its heavy armor and weapon load when compared with other cyclones, the Dragoon Assault Cyclone is intended to be the "Heavy" unit in a squad, or the "Heavy" Squad in a platoon. They are an ideal breach unit for boarding actions, and are well suited for taking on heavily armored opponents other cyclones have trouble with.
Known Issues:
The R-CADS are oversized in comparison to other CADS and CADS variants. While this doesn't affect performance when paired with the equally oversized tires of the Dragoon, it does impair the handling of other cyclone types.
The helmet cowl limits the pilot's ability to turn their head very far when deployed.
A bit top heavy in battle-suit mode.
