January 23, 2012 is the Chinese New Year of the Dragon.

I worked all day to get this done on time. The good news is I made it. Yay.

I'm fairly happy with the drawing overall. I like what I did with Twilight's dress. A bit less happy with Spike. Ironic, given that he was supposed to be the centerpiece.

The costumes are modeled after traditional Chinese costumes from the Tang Dynasty, which is considered the most prosperous of ancient China. If you go to your local China Town, most likely the sign above says "Tan Ren Jie" read from right to left, meaning "Street of the Tang People." Chinese people still affectionately name themselves "Tang People."

The Chinese writing is read top to bottom, right to left
"Happy New Year"
"Wishing you good health"
"May all your wishes come true"
