Best friends with Austin Takarashi since either can remember, they are close enough to regard each other "brothers". His father owned the Fighting Dragon Dojo but turned control over to Jimmy – who runs the school along with Austin. When he needs extra cash, Jimmy works custom paint jobs. Basically laid back, there are times he sheds his passiveness to defend his friends. Having trained with Austin and Josh his whole life, Jimmy is no lightweight in a brawl. He could easily take either of them and has wound up on the radar of some of Tsunami’s foes.

There’s a recurring joke in his family where names have repeating letters. His parents are Scott and Emma and own a design company called “Double Takes”. His actual name is James; but he refuses to be called that (or Jim). He will sometimes accept "Jimbo" – which Josh insists on calling him, as he knows it irritates him (in an ill-advised attempt to provoke Jimmy into losing his cool and fighting him). Jimmy tries his hand at various styles of martial arts and even moonlights as a ninja himself, separate from Tsunami.
