Aagh, as much as I like the game...I really wish I could have played as Mesia instead of Simea (or SNK for the NES version!) - but that's just me. It's a great game anyway!
Both versions. I almost treat them as different games with the same graphics, since they really are quite different.

The GBC version is torn down by a lot of fans of the original game because it has quite a number of differences from the NES game. The plot only follows some of the basic elements of the original plot....Essentially that there's a flying tower of doom, a bad man named Dragonia (retranslated to more closely fit the name in the Japanese version), the Four Sages/Elders, but the player-character and Mesia are actually prophesied warrior-magicians instead of scientists from our era, and there are other MAJOR plot changes. They're not necessarily bad changes, they just make the story different from the original. They also change some of the gameplay and the endgame...The final dungeon is more of a dungeon, some of the boss order is changed (DYNA is fought before the second battle with Dragonia), and the hard level and sword element requirements for fighting enemies are gone. Like, y'know how on Mt. Sabre there were parts of the caves where some enemies were weak to the Wind Sword and others were weak to the Fire Sword? In the GBC version, that line is much blurrier because while the elemental weaknesses still exist...You can use any sword on almost any enemy. The Ball and Bracelet items also boost the damage of the weapon they go with directly, instead of just giving you different charge levels.
However, there is one part of the game that was completely changed for the worse: the music was massively altered and REALLY sucks for the GBC remake. Like, so much that I could hardly stand to play the game at some parts because the music was so bad. Still, it's a good game...Mostly because the original is a good game.

I do know that the plot was changed a lot, and I know the general sense of the changes, but I've just never played it myself. I didn't play it for those reasons, especially the music and story change. If I want to play Crystalis I just play my NES copy lol.

i finally finished it tal!! such a nice game i had lots of fun with it! it was hard as shit for sure but definitely worth it!

But I like this. I would love to see some stronger lighting in there but other than that like the mood of the picture.
I'd say the colour scheme helped.

You have to push select (it should tell you what button is select) and you have to equip the sword and use it with B. But I realized that that online version is pretty crappy and hard to play with anyway. At least for me. I'm not a fan of the flickering line in the middle of the screen sometimes either.
