Description The spotted imps are remarkable for being the only imp species with a range that overlaps with that of another species on wide parts. Just like the striped imps, they are found in temperate forests, but they differ in their preference for wetlands and the especially dense and liana-rich disturbed forests. They're around 80 cm tall and weigh half as much as striped imps, a feature also found in animals with very similar niches sharing a habitat. The two species prefer to avoid each other, but in the cases they don't, the relations are more often friendly than hostile. According to their preferred habitat, spotted imps are good swimmers (but not divers, due to their high buoyancy) and much better gliders than striped imps due to their lower weight and more expansive gliding membranes - as all members of the rufus group they possess an uropatagium attaching above the ankle rather than slightly below the knee.
Imp feet have a similar dexterity like their hands and are often used for manipulating objects, somethin they will use their beaks for as well. What they lack in quality due to the rough scale covering of their fingers and the hooked claws getting in the way, they make up with quantity.

The striped and spotted ones can't. It doesn't stop some individuals from pairing up, though.
