All of my more recent work (2011 onward) has been made in Paint Tool Sai, the earlier work (before 2012ish) was done with my old graphire 2 tablet but I've since gotten an intuos 4 since well my old tablet was old and starting to kick the bucket. I'm glad you like my work and thanks for the comments : )

Well the tablet itself doesn't have any programs on it (its not like an ipad) and pretty much any tablet can be used in any program its more a matter of quality, longevity, and functions (such as the pressure sensitivity, tilt, active area size etc). Wacom tablets are, in my experience, high quality and last a long time (my graphire 2 is 8 years old and still works, but the cord is starting to break- but I've transported it a ton over the years).

If you're using it more for photo-touchups something in the bamboo line is more than adequate (the main thing I really like about the intuos is the scroll wheel which I set to brush size so I can change it on the fly) and a fraction of the price. Active area is also variable- the active area is mapped to your screen (so the top left corner on the tablet corresponds to the top left corner of your screen) so its best to stick to a tablet who's active area is in the same ratio as your screen. This also means that even a small active area still covers your entire display, just a smaller movement makes a bigger jump. If you don't want to move your hand a lot a smaller tablet is good (but you can still zoom in to make longer lines on the tablet surface). If you like to make long sweeping motions when drawing a larger active area is better. Of course this makes the tablet larger so it takes up more space, is heavier, and harder to transport. My old tablet was a small and I found that functional, i've now got a medium and its pretty nice. I personally probably wouldn't want a larger one since I tend to hold it on my lap since my physical work space is limited.

I mostly would like to use one for coloring my pen-lined sketches rather than using colored pencil which doesnt give the effect i am looking for. The medium intuos will probably be the one best for me because like you, i do like to draw holding a sketchbook or other surface on my lap...interesting...i didnt know that the active area applied to your whole screen....i guess its a good thing i have a small and old computer? lol....also considering how old my computer was i was concerned if the right programs would work on it. It is old so it works on a Windows program...

You show a really great standard in your colouring Raj. I really enjoy looking through your pieces and seeing all the colours you choose. Even here with the blue highlights on the fur, they work really well even with the warm palette you chose for the rest of the piece. Your attention to detail is outstanding, especially on those wings; veins are something most people forgo drawing on them! All the reds, greens and blues really come together in this commission and you make it work- that's the most important thing! I'm sure your recipient and their relative is extremely impressed with this.
