Hey, nice. I do like that you draw Seth kind of scrawny and not only as some ideal of beauty. In a strange way, the imperfections make s/he more beautiful.
I totally agree with you about the Disneyfication of horror monsters. Plus, any fictional creature with only strengths is just lousy writing.

When you gave me this comment, I was going through some tough school work loads. But I always told myself to go back and reply to this since all of your comments are wonderful. And so insightful! O_O I always look forward to your reviews because you really have something incredible and important to say. Thank you so much for taking the time to look through my stuff and comment. <3
Yeah, Seth really does have this scrawny-like body, which I find kinda beautiful. it's just as you said, it's imperfect, strange, but gorgeous nonetheless. I'm having a lotta fun doing girl Seth. Whereas boy Seth is pretty bright and moody, girl Seth is so much different. Of course, that has to do with Seth's mindset when Seth's a girl. Seth-girl is downright afraid of intimacy, whereas boy-Seth is extremely sexual and bright. That has to do with the nature of Seth being a werewolf. I could explain in detail the difference, but I'll save that for the comic.
Ugh, Disneyfication. Such a brilliant word to describe such a horrific description of today's monsters. They're very watered-down. I don't mind if they look beautiful. But I miss them being these beastly beautiful animals.

I haven't been commenting on a lot of people's work lately, but I can't believe I didn't at least favorite this.
Like usual, your anatomy is unique and beautiful. Your backs are just to die for. And Sethβs face is soβ¦ Wild but beautiful. And that hair.
His/Her character design is just great.

I don't blame you for neglecting your online visits. I'm a bit of an upload-monster.
And I'm extremely glad you think so.
Your anatomy is usually impeccable. And Iβm sure proud of you for studying anatomy. I havenβt cracked open an anatomy book since I started drawing (which was since I could hold a crayon). Itβs usually βlook at yourself in the mirrorβ kind of a studying. Itβs pretty sad, actually.
Well she sure does look exotic and tad dangerous. But yet she still has that certain Betty-Gothic sort of fashion even while holding a skull surrounded by that mysterious horror-like background.

You better get round to drawing Seth in her/his bad-ass self.

with the sky and Seth's nylons, I know there's the painted texture, but I'm up close looking at it, getting eye cancer from my computer screen ... is it just the screen, or did you use dot tones in some of that? <3 Because I love dot tones.
Your line work on Seth's back reminds me of Egon Schiele. XD I'm not sure if that's a compliment or a horrible thing to say. Definitely like your line weight, very alive, very horror.

mmm you know what Seth reminds me of this amazing figure i have fear and respect for but i'm not quite remembering who/what of it the name was...
and you're right, i really hate Twilight and the writer's own interpretation/representation of vampires (being a god BEING A GOD NO ONE IS A GOD NOT EVEN IN FICTION!! it seriously ruins the fun), but i haven't seen the werewolf one yet = =
now about Seth oooo man. she is one hot ladyman. The anatomy is delicious. i like the textures used in this too because it makes the picture stand out a lot more.

I think there's a lotta juicy stuff for the horror icons. Zombies too. It's got a lotta psychological horror potential, only most of today's horror movies are all about slapping a pretty face on screen. I really loved An American Werewolf in London since this film really showed that being a werewolf wasn't all fine and dandy. You couldn't just 'shut it off' at will.
With Seth, in my stories of him, he pretty much has to drug himself to sleep during full moons because he's going to kill whoever is around, friend or not. He can't control the possession. This greatly contradicts his human side, whose pretty loveable and outgoing. It makes an interesting dynamic situation because, like the character in An American Werewolf in London, you love the character but also fear that character too. Today's movies kinda downplay that. They make that loveable character able to somehow control their monstrous side, which totally makes that character less fearful.
I kinda liked what 30 Days of Night did, in making the vamps there bloody thirsty creatures. We need more movies that take these horror icons to that hardcore direction.

Good point! They really should go in that direction, and it's all too true what they do in the industries these days.
I also like the films that portray the more mysterious and intellectual side as well, that a werewolf isn't always a scary monster but almost something you can find anywhere you are. It's part of us, each human being. It's our darker side, the side that's more primal and instinctual. I suppose the part of us that thinks with the heart and not always the mind. Of course there's a bazillion different interpretations in folklore and legend, all of them very interesting.
Same with vampires, I never saw them as an entirely seductive creatures other than a means to lure in the prey. After that, to me, they're malicious and ruthless. The symbolism behind it is intriguing to me as well; life suckers. It's interesting how important blood is in history, and how it's seen as our life source -- and vampires are the creatures who crave it and want it. Another thing you can find in most places these days.
But a lot of the films these days either mock it or just don't cut it. I agree with An American Werewolf in London -- that was an excellent film. I like the idea of uncontrollable forces and sides of us that will never be tame.

I really love the textures and colours. I think it's really cool that you used so many traditional materials in it, and the screentones complement the effect of the ink splatters in a really wicked-cool way.
One thing I've been kind of waiting for others to notice is that Seth's right hand is on backwards. Given the position of the arm, the thumb should be on the viewer's side. Unless of course, his/her hand is supposed to be like that, and in that case I will shut up.
Anyway, it really is beautiful! A very eye-catching image.

Whoo-hoo! many thankies for your comment! *__* It's always exciting whenever someone talks about one of my pics, whether it's medium I used or the content itself. And you're more than welcome to steal Seth. Just be sure to bring her home before the moon turns full, before she transforms into a violent beast. O_o
As for this image, it was a mixture of traditional and digital, an ongoing experiement of mines. I really want to marry the two mediums together and have them appear seamless. 95% of this, though, is traditional. All the lines and textures you see here came from traditional watercolors and india ink. I applied a digital brush on the eraser tool to subtract and blend colors. I also used the curves in photoshop to amplify those watercolor textures since watercolors are pretty light. While the india ink showed up just fine, my scanner had a tough time picking up the watercolors. So yeah, Photoshop is great in giving me the power to amplify the natural effects of traditional medium.
Don't worry. I won't grow a big head. After all, that would mean I'd have to buy a new wardrobe to accomadate that size, which would be a pain in the arse. >_>

haha, I'll try. With human Seth, it's easy to bring in the sexiness. As a beast, well, I don't know. That may be tough to do. O_o
Anyway, thanks for the comments! Glad you love the colors. ^_^
