Description "There is no sanctuary for the flesh" - The Violinst

So...I decided to paint a character that's been in my life since I was a kid. Like...when I was 10. O_O The Violinist is the center of all my storylines, a God-like figure over my other characters such as Seth. She's pretty out there, lol. In fact, her dress and instrument are made from her own flesh and bones! They act as extensions of her body. Given that her bones and flesh are stronger than steel, and her blood is powerful than acid, engaging in battle with her is a bad idea, lol.

Basically, the Violinist is a damned God; sealed away by the Creator of the universe because her very existence (as well as others like her, which I call 'the Amalas') threaten to undo the balance of the universe. Thus, no one knows her name, so she is referred to as "The Violinist" in my story. There's a heavy curse placed by the Creator to prevent interaction with the Violinist. For example: those who desire to see her are immediately struck blind; their eyeballs melting right off. Those who hear her go deaf; their ears bleeding. Those who try to talk to her get their tongues cut off. Etc. Etc.

There's more behind her, which will be exposed in the comic I'm working on called "Septet". I won't say anymore than that though. I'll let it be a surprise for you guys once the comic gets going.

Until then, thanks for staying tuned and reading this. Also, many thanks to the watches and comments! I'm amazed by the recent surge of new watchers I've had lately. Thank you all!

Mein gott, she's amazing! The back-story is really scary, too, which gives me the beautiful-but-deadly kind of vibe. Weee, out of all your art, I guess I can say that I like this one the most! Have you ever finished the comic?

You took the reference from Victoria France's illustration.

Wonderful piece, but it would be better if you put the credits.

RadiusZero In reply to Lehanan [2010-10-25 08:43:37 +0000 UTC]

Here are works I drew inspiration from. Keep in mind 'inspiration' and 'reference' are two different things. One implies an artist was inspired by the idea/work of another while 'reference' means the artist *literally* based her/his work *directly* from another peron's work/material (ie, copied).

The following is a compilation of inspirations. I will say that the doll served as the foundation for the pose. So in this sense, it was a reference than mere inspiration.

Inspiration for pose (many shots of my doll were taken, most combined to make the pose for this pic): [link]

Inspiration for the choker: [link]

Inspiration for hair: [link]

Inspiration for fleshy clothes: Just look up anything from H.R. Giger. His skeletal sculpture work, in particular

I hope this clarifies things? O_o Similarities between two artist's art styles/works are inevitable, which is why I normally pass off anyone telling me 'your work looks like so-and-so'. In fact, if I had a dollar for every time people said my Seth character looks like Sandman's Death. However... accusations that I referenced/copied someone's work and didn't credit them for it are another story, *especially* if I didn't reference that artist to begin with.

As someone who has had her work stolen twice before, I know the importance of paying homage. While I've been aware of France's work (and am actually flattered you thought I referenced this artist! lol), I didn't use any of this artist works for this piece. In fact, the vampire bride one and some of the head profile paintings had been the only pieces I saw, up until I googled the other works to find the one you thought I took from.

RadiusZero In reply to Lehanan [2010-10-25 08:08:14 +0000 UTC]

Actually, no, I didn't use any of Victoria France's illustration. :/ References I *did* include was a) my own violin b) my ball-jointed doll (for facial look and when I was working on the pose) c) photos of corsets and d) flesh/skulls.

I searched through google to find the exact illustration you took I took from, and the closes thing I can assume you think I referenced from is this one?

[link]

I can see why you'd think I referenced France's illustration, but no, I didn't use any of this artist's work. :/ In fact, Goth girls with bleeding eyes, wearing corsets, and donning dark colors are very typical.

Anyways, thanks for letting me know that chances exists And thanks for taking your time to write me all inspirations you got to draw this. You're a wonderful artist and I'm following you a while ago so I just was a bit shocked after watching this piece. Sorry if I made accussations with no enough proofs, I just felt a bit pissed x_x"

RadiusZero In reply to Lehanan [2010-10-25 10:34:51 +0000 UTC]

All right, so, even though I referred to that 'photograph' for the arms bit, I did mention who the *original* creator of that work was. Thanks again for bringing this to light!

The funny thing about that 'photo' was that I sensed something was off about it when I first saw it. O_o In fact, that was why I decided to use my doll in the first place, lol.

RadiusZero In reply to Lehanan [2010-10-25 10:17:29 +0000 UTC]

O______O OMG, that picture! Ugh...I feel suddenly so unoriginal. In any account, not long ago after sending those links to you I tried hunting down another photograph I used for the fleshy arm veins and boobs. Ironically enough...!

[link]

Hah, now I know it's not a photograph after all. In fact, now I know *this* photo is a direct rip-off of Victoria Francis' piece. >.< Thanks so much for providing this information to me though. At least I know who to give credit and that this is, in fact, Francis.

Absolutely! Don't feel bad for messaging me about things like this. I want to disclose as much information to my watchers as possible. I just feel terrible that the photo that inspired the flesh arms was none other than Francis' piece. I've no idea who to credit this, since, at the time, it was this photo I saw. I used my doll to 'fill in the blanks', in addition to the other links I provided here.

Wow... This is an amazing piece mate! It looks like an ink wash or watercolour, or a combination of both. The detail is amaznig - I particularly like the corset, as well as the veins prominent on her body The muted colour scheme definitely sets an ominous mood about her. Very cool.

Definitely favourited You deserve the extra attention.
