Description Hallo thar,
I've put this under painting tutorials because it's intended to inform you on water resistant inks, if you want to watercolour over them.

FW
acrylic ink, still my favorite, thicker consistency so more sticks to my nib and I don't have to dip as often. Isn't sticky when it's drying.

Higgins Black Magic
comes recommended by some fairly established Deviants, very thin consistency, had to dip twice just to write the name. still very nice if I can find a nib that holds alot of ink.

KOH-I-NOOR
consistency sort of in between the other two, lifted most quickly when re-wetted but still not bad. very black, gets used by print students to block light during silkscreen making.

So all in all, I'd use any one of them twice, though the thicker FW ink with simpler pen nibs. I've tried several sorts of coloured inks and most of them bleed when re-wetted, even FW, making black inks no comparison for coloured inks of the same brand.
Please note that most inks will eventually lift if you keep rubbing them with water, so be gentle and decisive with your brushstrokes. Letting the drawing cure for a day or two before painting over it will help prevent bleeding and smearing.

This was done on cheaper watercolour paper, the stuff with those mechanical wide dimples in it almost like a fabric texture. You'll likely get different results from papers with softer surfaces.

Pretty nifty. Imma hafta invest in some inks and nibs now that I'm starting to experiment with watercolor.

AND I ADORE THE RAINBOW BIRDIES. Just sayin'.

everybody could use some birdies

I just like how drawing and watercolour work together, most watercolours I see don't involve ink.
it is a bit fidgetty.

I used a archival pen, and is okay but I wish it had a softer tip so I could control the thickness better... But so far I've had no problems with bleeding or lifting!

Hee. I have just finished the first chapter. :3 I will definitely need to read all she's got posted so far-- it'll be good fodder as I consider how to re-write Happenings.

I FINISHED IT ALL.

.... and I feel like I need to totally rewrite my novella. XD

Oh well, I'd been planning to do that already.

(I loved it. Seriously loved it. I'm a compulsive good-grade earner, and I totally put aside my projects, readings, and research paper to read that. XD)
I would love to discuss it, and orcs and fantasy in general, with you. :3

neato
what'd you like about it? I liked the jay at the beginning, and the author's personality coming out in both chars.
aww you should have been working

I liked the themes: pacifism to the supreme, war and misunderstanding between different peoples (who are really actually very similar and would make adorable babies if they just stopped fighting), stubborn-ness, ecology and animal loving-ness... uh, I'm sure there's more. The thing I like the best is studying the vilified "other" and finding humanity behind it. A lot of the stereotypes we make don't actually fit the people we meet, or they're based on misunderstandings.

ALSO, I like how it's an anti-war novel that is funny, not just grim and angry. :3 I think it's really effective, and it's what making me really reconsider my writing...

you think your stuff is too grim?
but emo-tastic is still in isn't it? XD
nah I'm just thinking about the drowning orc.

what are you thinking about doing with your story

dragophethis In reply to Quilsnap [2011-04-23 06:14:28 +0000 UTC]

I like grim, but I like grim with humor in it-- Some of my older stories are just a little too emo to take seriously. Let's just say my sarcasm has matured in the past two years.

Which story? Some of my stories I'm hoping to finish (like my Grim Reaper story, Seven Stages), and some I'm hoping to rewrite (like my ork novella, Happenings of an Ork and a Woman (man, that needs a new title. O.o))

maybe new title, maybe not, at least you know what you're getting XD

I also like the sexual tension in the ursulav story that isn't all that sexual, just strangers in close proximity

Teehee, yeah, it was adorable. :3

And my title's been around for so long it'll have to stick around as a subtitle at least. I'm fond of it, but it's a mouthful, and I'm not fond of how the usage of "woman" implies humans have claim to the term.

you've got a point i guess
oh I was looking around for orc books once and found one called the queen of the orcs, or something like that, about a girl turned into a slave, then turned over to an army to serve the orc faction.
I read some random sample chapters and its a bit simple but really interesting.
