I was a pole vaulter. I did distance my senior year, but was out with an injury most of the season. Pole vault was my first love, though.

Whoa. That's intense. Whenever I see anyone pole vault, I freak out internally because I'm pretty sure if I did that I'd fall backwards and break every bone in my body. But, does that happen normally? Falling backwards? Sorry about the injury. I guess that's one of the reasons I never approached athletics in high school.

You have enough force to carry you through. I mean sometimes if the pole isn't turned the right way (it is meant to bend a certain way which allows for the vaulter to go higher) it will knock you back, but there are easy ways to make sure you have the pole facing right. I think I saw maybe one person fall all four years I vaulted.
