"What're you doing with that there apple, Princess?"
------
The clear summer sky shimmered a bright, clear blue through the leaves in the apple trees as Casey slowly pulled his work cart across the fields, happily humming to himself. He stood for a moment in the sun's warmth and let out a small sigh, smiling and looking up into the branches of the trees. Life couldn't get much better for him; he had great family, a great farm and working environment, as well as the orchards all to himself today... or so he thought.
A petite, yet loud "Celestia damn it all!" Cried out from the distance. He flicked his ears as a neutral, bland expression crossed his face as he realized that he now had guests to deal with. His sigh turned to that of annoyance and slung his head over the side, looking down the pasture at the red fence in the distance and there stood the awkward, youngest daughter thingy of Discord and Princess Twilight Sparkle. Though he knew she was kind yet feisty from the few interactions he'd had with her, he never quite liked talking to her on his own. She was too smart for her own good and couldn't even take a joke! Not even one of Casey's best!
Just put on a smile, Casey, and go see what on Equestria she's doing here, he told himself. Grunting in disappointment he quickly removed his harness and slowly made his way toward the small Draconequus. As he got closer he noticed that she was covered in bits of apple, as if one had … exploded on her? He quickened his gate to a trot to get to the bottom of the situation.
"What're you doing in the orchards? And what're you doing with that there apple, Princess?" Casey asked when he reached the fence, watching her sling her hooves to shake off the apple chunks. She turned around quickly, unphased by her trespassing on his farm and whipped her head one final time, throwing off the soupy substance. "I'm doing very important scientific research that could help aid in the survival of all Equestia," she stated simply, composing herself with a pencil and scroll as if nothing had just happened.
"You're going to save Equestria with my... apples?" He asked, holding back a sly grin and chuckle, "and from what exactly?" Casey rose up and leaned against the fence, the wood creaking lightly underneath his frame and weight; he locked eyes with the stoic princess, attempting to get a smile out of her.
Persephone sighed loudly and dramatically, who knew she had the bold attitude? "No," she answered, annoyance clearly setting in, "I'm studying them in search of a cure for the vamp-" she quickly piped up, aware that she was about to give out classified information. Percy turned her back to the stallion and began scribbling upon her scroll.
Don't screw this up, Percy. Luna trusted you with this research and you almost blew it! You could have caused a panic if word had gotten out! She angrily thought to herself. Casey stared at the dark Draconequus's back and screwed up his brow. "Vamps? You're protecting Equestria from a form of Jazz? How noble of you!" He prodded, beginning to laugh as she placed another apple upon the fence post, clearly flustered.
The fur around the princess's neck began to puff up defiantly as her face slowly blushed, angry that the stallion couldn't understand the importance of what she was doing. He was making jokes! Mocking her! Persephone's swept horns began to glow a bright blue as she levitated a second apple, prepare to hurl it into Casey's gaping, laughing maw.
"Woah woah!" Casey choked between laughs, holding up his large hooves in mock defense, "just a minute there, Princess! I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make jokes of your project!" He chuckled some more as she lowered the apple and scowled at him. She tried very hard to keep an angry appearance, but slowly her lips screwed up in a smile and snort escaped her nostrils as a single laugh left her lungs. Casey was in.
Percy dropped the apple to the ground and quickly lost her smile as she looked over her notes, remembering she had no time for games. "I really need to continue. This is very important." She began scribbling furiously onto the thin scroll, occasionally looking at the apple and a few glances were given to Casey as well. He didn't plan on leaving. She was too fun to mess with to just leave.
The slender draconequus began levitating the apple that sat upon the fence post and started to stare intently at it, seemingly casting a spell. The skin began bubbling up oddly on the fruit, almost as if it was being cooked from the inside out. Casey raised one eyebrow and watched intently, slightly interested in seeing what was to happen. A small hissing sound was heard for a second while steam, or was it smoke? began rolling off of the apple and then...
Pop! The apple exploded once again with a soft squishing sound as Percy was, for the second time, coated in apple residue. Casey ducked as chunks of apples just nearly missed his head, laughing loudly.
"Ah ha ha ha!" His deep, southernly laugh echoed around the orchard, apple guts dripping off of Percy's hair and face as she angrily stared at the stallion and stood still as a statue.
Casey fell back onto the grass, kicking his hooves unable to contain his laughter. "You know," he wheezed out, "there's much easier ways to make applesauce!" He bellowed, laughing open mouthed and happily at Persephone.
"I'M NOT MAKING APPLESAUCE," she roared, shaking the bits of apple from her fur for a second time. "You just keep laughing it up! You're going to thank me one day, regretting the day you made fun of these studies!" She stamped her paw, turning her back once more to her notes and marking something off hastily.
Casey continued laughing for a few more moments, slowly getting to his hooves and wiping his eyes. He's had his fun and thought it time to finally leave the poor girl alone. "Alright alright, I'm sorry, Prince-" he started. "And STOP calling me PRINCESS!" She growled a second time at him from over her shoulder. Casey blinked and held back a smile, loving how easily the feisty gal's buttons could be pressed.
"Okay... citizen." He chuckled. "I guess I'll be on my way... getting back to my chores and all. To save the future of this farm." He poked at her a final time, not even waiting to see her expression or hear her response. He heard an annoyed "hmph" as he made his way back up the hill towards his cart.
Casey grinned from ear to ear thinking about the pretty little thing. He liked messing with her. Coffee Cake didn't usually allow him to joke with the other girls, but now that she was gone... he had plenty of time to work his magic with them. He naturally was a flirt, and that's probably why Cake liked his attention so much. As he trotted up the hill he continued to think about the realization of his newfound freedom and all he could do. Slowly he reattached his harness and gazed down the orchard one last time at Persephone, who was once again transfixed on her apples. He was going to get her to tell him about this project, it was his farm after all, and maybe if he was lucky... get to know her a little more.
"DARN IT!" He heard again as he moved away from the pasture, chuckling to himself as he heard the tiny pop of yet another apple exploding in the distance.

I realize now that a more interesting drawing would have been Percy covered in apple slime, so I may draw that up as an additional drawing to go along with the scenario<3
