I am completely amazed by your pumpkin carvings!! Do you carve any other materials? It's obvious you have a talent for carving and I would think you'd be a natural at gem carving and/or wood carving as well.

how do you get the mid tone?
do you carve out the innards or just peel off the outer layer?

Man I can't type today! Let me redo that first sentence...... I clena out the pumpkin and make sure it is about half an inch thick from cleaning the inside.

Both.... I clean out the pumpkin and get make sure the pumpkin is about half an inch thich from cleaning the inside. The bright areas are where the pumpkin is completely cut away. The mid tone is where I peel away some of the skin on the front side of the pumpkin.
