That is a beautiful design choice for a pumpkin. I have always loved the original painting but never would have imagined seeing it this way. Too bad pumpkins rot since such a lantern would be a nice feature at any time of the year

A few hours, maybe 3. I started out slowly, but as the cuts got deeper I started getting more and more reckless cutting ever deeper to bring out more contrast.

For those who are curious, I actually used a dremel with a spiral drill bit to carve the details.
It worked pretty well because it did let me carve in brush-like strokes.
Make one hell of a mess with the pumpkin-goo-dust going everywhere, but it was quite fun to do.
