True. But they don't belong on classic Sonic.
Somehow seeing green-eyed Sonic on something that represents the Genesis era reminds me of bootleg merchandise.

I own the Sonic: Genesis hardcover book, so I have read it and I was relatively pleased with it. It was not only a throwback to the Genesis games but also what the Sonic comics were like before they went to rot many, many years ago.
I suppose if the content is nostalgic, then the packaging should be as well. Otherwise it seems disingenuous. Kinda like Sonic Mega Collection: r.mprd.se/GCN/Covers/Sonic%20M⦠But I recognize that the art isn't everything. The sole reason I stopped buying the MegaMan comic was Ian Flynn's writing.
So I guess when I make images like this they are all about my own petty rebellion and they don't really amount to much. But I'm the kind of guy who won't stay quiet when things start going bad or worse. And that doesn't often influence people in a positive way, especially young people.

"It was not only a throwback to the Genesis games but also what the Sonic comics were like before they went to rot many, many years ago"
yeah....i blame flynn for alot of what happened to archie-sonic and even for what will happen to idw-sonic.
"But I recognize that the art isn't everything. The sole reason I stopped buying the MegaMan comic was Ian Flynn's writing."
same here. for me if i read anything from 160 to 290 with the sonic books its likely for the artwork. like take this issue for example: readcomiconline.to/Comic/Sonic⦠the artwork is absolutely amazing, but the story is meh..
alot of people blame ken penders for what happened to archie-sonic, but i dont:Β
Why I Defend Ken Penders(with links for evidence)**authors notes: I was debating on if I should make this post with my worries of what my audience would think of any further content on Ken Penders, as noted here:Β .
But people in the comments assured me to continue what I'm doing such as :iconsmotrand yes smotr I'm working on the boom story you requested me to do but it'll take me some time to get it finished cuz I have writers block), :iconson1c2001:, :iconthatonesmurfx103-9thanks for being a good friend onm Twitter and Discord), :iconzaneyboy20I'm still looking forward to seeing the finished library for the poster of my sonic fan film), :iconlivixal-73x:, and :iconjordangothank you for being a huge help in the art department for "Super Mario Quest" and eventually "Doctor Who: The Sol Adventures). As well as the kind words of my good friends :iconzentrixstudios: & :iconserra-royale: telling me not to succumb to the critics, fanbrats, and haters and just keep posting the content I enjoy.
A special huge thanks to :iconΒ i wrote a whole article in ken's defense. people need to do their research sometimes instead of blindly accusing him for everything that happens to the comics. i put alot of the blame on ian and archie why archie-sonic went downhill.

trust me, i know exactly what you mean. cuz im one of the only people who like and defend ken penders and sonic boom: rise of lyric. its tough to deal with

I say stick to your guns. Don't let the outspoken minority convince you that they're the majority just because their unified voice is often the loudest.
I didn't like Penders' writing, but I do consider it bad cheese, as opposed to Flynn whose writing always sounds like snarky YouTube comments littered with esoteric references. And bad cheese is always more entertaining than purely bland.
That's why I planned (years ago) to do a MST3K parody Sonic comic where Sonic & friends riff the infamous "Sonic Live" comic.
Β
Mature Content
Of all the unfinished comics on my resume', that's the one I regret the most. Well, that and "S.H.I.T.", I just didn't have a really good idea for an ending which happens to me a lot.

Thanks, but all I did was fix the eyes.
The rest is pure Archie. Although, I'll admit the whole "Genesis" storyline is a good read, much better than any convoluted tripe that has been spewed from the comic in recent years.
It makes you wish the Sonic Universe book was more of this instead of just a platform to showcase Sonic's repulsive gallery of supporting characters.

Sonic Does not have green eyes. they make him wear green contacts.
SEGA: Hear ya' go.
Sonic: Oh boy! contacts!
SEGA: Green ones!!!
Sonic: but wouldn't they make me see completely green?
SEGA: they will help you see Robotnik better
Sonic: Cool! *Puts them on*
SEGA: your shoes are messed up! *puts buckles on sonics shoes*
Sonic: My shoes weren't bad, why did you do that? now their too tight!
SEGA: No, your too fat, Sonic. i will sign you up for an Weight loss program!
And that is how sega made *Cough* imposter *Cough* Modern Sonic.

-Sigh- It's a design that's over 11 years old. Actually, older. I saw teaser images to Sonic Adventure back in 1997. What's next? People gonna complain that in Sonic 3 he was a darker Blue and had taller shoes? If you're so tired of it, go work for Sonic Team.
I've stated my peace.

Fox-Skyline In reply to ProfessorMegaman [2011-03-21 20:01:46 +0000 UTC]
Understandable, to each their own.
I just think it's the silliest thing to complain about. I mean, the only complaint I have is game play. That is something that needs to be worked on. The way I see it, Sonic's getting older, he runs a lot, so of course he's gonna slim down, he's gonna get taller, and maybe "grow" his hair out. I actually think the green eyes (if done right) highlight the colours of Sonic myself.
But then I realize, that Sonic is a fictional character made up by some guys back in 1991, and I (me personally) shouldn't get to worked up over what they do to him. He's still blue, he's still fast, and he's still Sonic.
All that is my personal opinion, and does not reflect anyone else's choice, opinion, or comment. You have stated yours, so I have stated mine. Thank you for your time.

No prob. My brother and I often discuss the changes to Sonic's design. He has a lot more issues with modern Sonic than I. But I will agree that there are a lot of "animation don't's" in it, but maybe that's just because the classic Sonic design was so solid and iconic.

I find it visually unappealing. When I first saw them in 1999, I thought Sonic had gone insane. As if he was deprived of daylight from being locked in Sega's basement during the Sega Saturn era.
It's contrary to the design I grew up with. Tall, muscular Sonic with over-sized quills and green eyes just doesn't have the same vintage charm as the short, stocky, Mickey-eyed punk who still had the anatomy to roll into a ball. That design was the key to Sonic's inital success and I don't feel the need to change what's not broken. Like changing Superman's design or Homer Simpson. It's iconic, and I say leave it alone.

Resetting the comic, thus eliminating every bad idea the comic has had in the past 15 years? Well, it's certainly not the most original idea in the comic industry. But in Sonic's case, it can only mean good things.
Wipe out the Dark Legion, the Iron Queen,Egg"Robo-Robotink"Man, good guy-bad guy-good guy-bad guy Snively, Sonic's parents, Sally's family, every echidna except Knuckles, Scourge, Station Square and the "overlanders"... It's all crap! They must know that this comic is grossly oversaturated with characters. And for the love of God, go back to Bunnie's original design!

You know what they say, "Everyone's a critic".
I just prefer the older, simpler Sonic stories. The ones that didn't need special freedom fighter factions, all-seeing overlords, inter-dimensional beings, lost civilizations and every single issue being one big 50-character smack down (the writers are like children slamming their action figures together).
For me, the comics were better when they were a loose adaptation of the Sonic SatAM show. It had wit, humor, action and Sonic beat his foes without throwing a single punch. It's just SOOOOOOOO out of context for a character with super speed and a sonic spin.
