Back to the basics.Always good to refresh myself on those, and see if I can use new/better techniques.
I'll be honest, I felt pretty down today.
And I think I will for a while, but I'm trying to push past it.
So today I went to the FX store, and picked up some new supplies to try and distract myself.

Yeah, this actually started out as a scar, and the shape made a little more sense in that form. I definitely agree that it doesn't make as much sense when it's a cut.
Usually I do try to do an interesting pose, but you're right, I really just wanted to focus on the cut this time.
I'm sure I'll be trying this technique again soon, and when I do, I'll try a different shape and pose.

Well it's not just regular beauty makeup, of course. xD There's some pretty incredible FX products out there that can create wonderful effects.

I have watched far too much Doctor Who, as I grinned when I saw the shape of this cut. Nice depth to it, too, especially on the lower branch.

The thing that impresses me most about this effect is the texture inside the cut. I like the fact that it really looks like fatty tissue instead of the usual red mess I see in a lot of fx work. Very nicely done.

I think you should have made the skin between the lower two cuts dropping down like it was some weapon that is crooked..
It looks good anyway because the depth is really great!

I agree with AmayaErin on the downward cut, it could happen however unless its more of a "RIP" cut I'm not too sure you could call it a "slash" If it had more jagged and torn flesh to it I'm thinking it might be more visually real. if I may, goggle up some pics of crime seen photos or labled "accident" photos ( You may already do this I'm just thinking out loud here)
All in all you have a super talent, with time I am positive we will be seeing your work in the movies.. Watch out Mr. Tarantino there is a new artist commin your way!

that looks particularly realistic and GLARLY. What I love about it the most is that it already looks partially healed. Like it's not quite fresh but it's not quite healed either.

Doesn't look that deep. The shadows shouldn't be so uniform and it looks more like a kind of edge glow instead of a shadow since I can't pick a proper light source / angle.
Also, the bit between the forked part of the Y should probably have a loose skin flap dangling a little. I imagine there'd be one left over after tearing skin off of someone's face like that.
