Adorable The composition in this one is really strong. Watch that back leg though, it seems to be twisted a little funny. Also, in the future, try experimenting with some rule of thirds positioning to really make the visual interest pop. Looking back I see that you have poked at this a bit. I would encourage you to really dive into it for a while though, there a lot of neat things that can come from it.

Hey, thanks man, I appreciate it. Yeah, I was trying to give her a particularly awkward stance to kind of show that she's nervous/shy/flustered, but it does still look wrong. I'm still so bad with the anatomy. XD
As for the rule of thirds, yeah, it's definitely something I've looked into but as for this particular drawing, I was really trying to throw her at the viewer. Like, boom here ya go, here's a horse. Haha, but for real, here I was trying to get at the idea that this is a big moment for one of the two parties involved and for that one moment, each has the other's complete attention, center of view, no distractions. However, I do know what you mean and will for sure be trying to do more with rule of thirds in the future.
Again, thank you so much for the feedback, bro! Always great to hear from ya!

The center of interest defiantly works for this piece , in fact I'm not sure rule of thirds would work as well for it. I was mostly encouraging experimentation in future work if your interested. Also, I totaly hear get you the anatomy thing. My ability with anatomy seems to change with the weather; one day its pretty good and another it makes me question my sanity.

p.s. do you know who Jim Lee is? A friend of mine pointed me toward some videos of him giving how to draw anatomy stuff. He is a artist for Batman comics and mostly does those sorts of things, but his tips on dynamic figures and other stuff are really useful. I haven't watched all of the videos yet, but the ones I have watched have already started helping me make neat dynamic sketches.

Oh right, yeah, I really want to experiment with all kinds of visual goodness, rule of thirds being in there! LOL, anatomy is confusing. What even is a skeleton. XP

I hadn't heard of him before but that sort of stuff sounds right up my alley! Definitely gonna check him out.
If you ever find someone with nice videos or tips for background stuff too, please let me know. I feel bad but any time I think of an idea that requires any sort of background scenery or props, I just melt and stick to my comfort zone of plain/simple bg and one horse. haha

I have the opposite problem XD whenever I paint something I tend to feel obligated to paint a crazy background. I really need to start doing some simple bg work so that I can master how to paint subjects well the first time around (I usually have to revisit the subject like 3-5 times before I am happy with it, especially human subjects, they are so difficult). I don't know of any video sources at the moment but maybe we could Skype sometime and I could show you some background tricks I've learned. I'm not the best at them, but I know a thing or two. The only sorts of bgs that really intimidate me are ones that contain architecture 0.0 good perspective takes forever... ugg. But once I've done enough simple bg pieces, I'm going to force myself to do architecture until I'm satisfied.

Man, I don't know how you do it. Backgrounds just kill me. And yah, architecture is crazy. I'd be down to skype sometime! We should totally do a collab at some point!

I could draw a horse and detract from your pretty landscape! XD

TruthVoyager In reply to PinkieSheen [2016-04-06 04:16:54 +0000 UTC]

Dude, I would be totally cool with that! Perhaps at some point we could even do a thing where we each focus just on the thing we need practice on while the other person works on the other thing; ex, you can practice painting the background while I practice painting just the pony(s). We will see ^^
