I like how even as an adult, Calvin's imagination can still go a little crazy.

This is pretty cool. This'd make Bill Watterson jealous.

First off...this is amazing. Your artwork captures the original style brilliantly and the dialog is a perfect homage to the original work. I have to say though that this is the most depressing thing I have seen in a long time. I remember reading Calvin and Hobbes as a child and relating to him as a child does to his favorite characters. This strip depicts Calvin as an adult who remembers what it was to be a child. To understand full well the feeling that his daughter is experiencing and understanding that it is forever out of his reach as an adult. It is shockingly sad. Well done sir or ma'am...I need a drink.

I like this comic very much it shows the dilemma, shall we unleash our inner child as a grown up or not.

And the frustration as we have to put pretty much everything we liked to do "up on the shelf" literally or figuratively.
Facing the fact that the fun times are permanently over is painful.

Actually I'm extremely disappointed in Calvin for now seeing Hobbes as a stuffed toy. Ok, I can acknowledge the generational premise, that he and Susie have a kid (I don't like the name for that kid - I get it - Francis Bacon - but you could have done better than that, Bacon just isn't a good first name! Maybe Newton. Or possibly Pascal) and that she might have a hobbes-like thing going on, a stuffed animal that is real to her. But NOT if it's the ACTUAL HOBBES as a hand-me-down from her father Calvin! If it's actually the original Hobbes, then HE should be able to see Hobbes as he *really* is as well, he shouldn't have merely turned into his own father.

But, Calvin knows Hobbes is not just a stuffed toy, He just doesn't have the time/chance any more and/or maybe he's just letting the next generation have a turn? There needs to be a comic that addresses this.

Dude, the whole point was Calivin saw Hobbes that way when he was a kid, if he saw it the same way when he was an adult it would get rid of the whole magical 'childs imagination' feel
Also, they were going more for what Kevin Bacon believed then his name I think

zortharg In reply to MyLittlePeasant [2014-06-02 04:42:00 +0000 UTC]
No. That wasn't the whole point at all. Other kids saw Hobbes as a stuffed toy too. Calvin saw Hobbes as he *really* is, because he is Calvin, not because he was 6 years old. You're confusing Calvin and Hobbes with The Little Prince or Peter Pan. It's not about turning into a fuddy old adult being inimical to growing up. Read some of the dialogue from the original Calvin and Hobbes. The things Calvin said to Hobbes. The things Hobbes said back to Calvin. There is NOTHING about it that is characteristic of a 6 year old. One thing that Calvin and Hobbes made me believe is that it may be possible to transcend one's age in many ways, and one's perception of the world is the most important way there is.
Anyway, I didn't mean to sound like I was complaining to YOU, I was replying to your comment but that was commentary director to the author.

zortharg In reply to zortharg [2014-06-02 04:48:40 +0000 UTC]
Wait. KEVIN Bacon? Oh no, if you were wrong about the childhood/adult thing, you're in another galaxy about that. It's the philosopher Francis Bacon, who lived in England concurrent to Queen Elizabeth I. I now have learned that her name is actually Frances but that Bacon is a pet name, so I guess it's tolerable then.

I mean, the art is wonderful, of course, but I'm more impressed by your ability to mimic Watterson's voice. I'd believe this was actually from the man himself!
