Google 'aerogel'.Β It helped me with the mechanics of some organisms for Odin (I'll start uploading pieces for that project soon).

recently, though, I have been playing with the idea of a scramjet engine flying creature, but I have zero idea how that would work, maybe there is an inflatable sack on the back of this scramjet creature, which supplies it with the innitial takeoff boost and then it only uses the air passing through its body to maintain flight. these creatures could possibly do without large external wings and only use proportionally short "fins" for steeringΒ

I've actually thought about that form of flight, too. The designs of the tube paper airplane and the Dyson airfoil fan were of great help to nail down the mechanics.

well they were probably supposed to be huge... XD
looking at the sketches again as i found them, I thought they maybe puke on their prey to liquify it Β before slurping up the nutritious contents and call them hindenblarghs, but that seemed over the top... XD
