Description Yeeeeah this is about as done as it's gonna get.

My own creations, Hirek and Lee, getting beaten up by some space cops or something. Mass Effect? You guessed right.

I'm not 100% happy with it, but that just seems to be how it goes now.

Done in Corel, off and on for like five or six hours.

...I.... love turians. I hate drawing them.

But that's a good thing! Your work ellicted a strong emotional response with me, which is a sign of a well drawn piece!

Just a passing remark here, but to me; she looks exactly like she's dying. Like she's drawing her last breath.

Haunting. Very haunting.

That's a... strategic cut you made there. Avoid the hassle of drawing the turian, but retain expression. Very smart. Great expression on the girl, too. Are you new to Painter? Looks like you're warming up to it.

I had read and enjoyed your Modus Operandi fic. Good luck with your new project, too.

Actually, it all just sort of worked out so that I wouldn't have to draw the turian's face. I drew HER face fairly high on the paper, so I didn't have room for the rest of him. I tried to move it around so he'd be leaning or something, but it just... didn't work out for me XD

Yeah, I'm VERY new to Painter. New to coloring in general. I'm quite a disaster with it. I used a reference image this time and was able to use more colors than I usually do. Blues, reds, all that. I just have a hard time making things look right without something steering me in the right direction.

Thank you! I'm really glad you liked it. Hopefully, I'll have something to show from this new one soon.

Some accidents turn out to work rather well!

I'm thinking that you might actually be better off with Photoshop. Seeing you're more into line art + colouring (rather than painting from scratch), you could do that more easily in PS. But that might just be me: I'm kinda clumsy with Painter too, I use it mainly to texture my backgrounds!

If you're struggling with skin tones, there's a friend's set of tutorials that which I recommend to.. well, everyone who's into painting faces. [link]

Really? I have Photoshop Elements 7 (I'm fairly sure) and for some reason, it seems to act up with my tablet. Like it isn't quite calibrated right. With Painter, though, I have no problems. The location on the pad syncs properly with the point on my screen. With PS, things go a bit wonky. I may have to go back in and play with the settings a bit then.

My second issue with Photoshop is that I can never see to find the right brushes. I'm always looking at pieces of art, envying the styles I see because I can't quite capture the same smoothness or sharpness in the coloring or line art. It seems I either end up with a texture that's too hard or too soft for me. Though this could just be proof of my inexperience with the program. I do like how Painter has so many unique brush options, all of which seem very organic.

Thank you so much! This is JUST what I need! I'm always on the lookout for good tutorials. You are amazing.

Check out if you have (or need) different app settings for PS in your Wacom config (via the Control Panel). Shouldn't be acting up!

Brushes in PS can be a little tricky. I have personally banned soft-edged brushes from painting, except for glazing effects at very low opacity. With a standard hard-edged round brush and pressure sensitivity turned on, you should be able to get a nice balance between a sharp and soft look, depending on your blending and colour picking. I have posted a painting process here (with some info on brushes used) here: [link] . Hope it gives you some idea.

I've lost count to how many people I've linked these tutorials to. They're the best on skin tones out there that I have come across. Navate sure has that one down pat.

Awwwww that is so CUTE! And sweet as well!

Tell me about them. Are they dating or anything? Or are they just good friends? I was just wondering cuz I noticed the way the turian has his hand resting on the human character's head XD

Weeell.... um. Not sure how much I can say? I'm doing an awful job at keeping the details under wraps.

It's sort of... an antagonistic relationship/reluctant friendship turned into mutually misunderstood romance? Did that make any sense?

I'm working on one, actually. It's going super slow. I seem to have trouble moving on unless I do like... weeks and weeks of research first. XD GOTTA GET DEM DETAILS RIGHT. But I'll be linking to it when there's something to show.
