Description
Hello hello, Noir here! It's been a while, and it'll still take some time for me to get back to a regular upload schedule. Settling in back to my old home and applying for jobs is taking up most of my time now.
At any rate, today's Pokemon is based on the numbat, a beloved but often overlooked Australian marsupial! While designing this Pokemon, I noticed a very close parallel to one popular shounen anime character. I decided to go all in with that idea, and sprinkled in a few more pop culture references for good measure!
As always, I hope you enjoyed my content! Leave a comment if you feel like it and I'll see you again... as soon as possible!

DESCRIPTIONS
-------------------
Name | Species | Type | Abilities | Height | Weight | Description
Arsinoot | Flame Fist Pokemon | Fire | Volt Absorb, Blaze, Contrary (Hidden) | 1'04", 0.41 m | 13.7 lbs, 6.2 kg | An extremely rare Pokemon that lives in isolated pockets in the South-Western part of the region. They use their fiery hot forearms to burn holes through tree bark to get to the burrowing larvae underneath.
Numbolt | Zap Dart Pokemon | Fire/Electric | Volt Absorb, Blaze, Contrary (Hidden) | 2'10", 0.86 m | 64.8 lbs, 29.4 kg | A specialist bug hunter, they routinely take down large swarms of bug Pokemon using a peculiar arrow-like energy attack. They have been seen riding on the backs of larger bird Pokemon while hunting.
Nimignis | Overcharged Pokemon | Fire/Electric | Superconductor, Blaze, Contrary (Hidden) | 3'07", 1.09 m | 78.7 lbs, 35.7 kg | These Pokemon are believed to be born when a Numbolt is struck by lightning. While they are normally capable to absorbing the electricity, the sheer amount of energy has 'short-circuited' their minds.
NEW ABILITY - Superconductor: Boosts the Sp. Atk stat (by one stage) on Electric Terrain, but HP decreases every turn (1/8 total HP).

DESIGN & CONCEPT
--------------------------
These Pokemon were primarily inspired by the numbat, a tiny marsupial which has a specialized insectivorous diet. Much like the aardvark or the anteater, they use their long sticky tongue to snatch termites right out of their mound, clawing with its powerful forelimbs as it does.
Secondary inspiration includes the bandicoot, foxes, wolves, tigers, fox spirits (kitsune, kumiho) and revenants. A key design element for the final stage is Susanoo-no-Mikoto, the Japanese god of storms and his sword, Kusanagi, otherwise called Ame-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi, "The Heavenly Sword of Gathering Clouds." Characters from pop culture that influenced their designs include Katsuki Bakugo (BNHA), Azula (ATLA) and many more.
As for their abstract theme, these Pokemon represents circus performers. The circus, a form of variety entertainment show that goes all the way back to the days of the Romans (as epitomized in the expression panem et circenses "bread and circuses"). From jugglers to acrobats to animal tamers to stunt artists, each performer fills their own niche of daring and awe-inspiring talent.
ARSINOOT: Very active in the day, this Pokemon can be seen scurrying from tree to tree, sniffing out grubs with its long snout. They are very acute listeners, too: able to detect the sounds of larvae chewing through the wood underneath the bark. Their arms are naturally very hot, which enables them to bore right through wood by punching it. Their sticky saliva is extremely flammable, and they have been seen to hunt by lobbing burning 'spitballs' at flying bugs. Ownership of this Pokemon is severely restricted, due to their very small wild population. The design of this Pokemon is centered around the Numbat, an endangered animal native to Western Australia, which lends this Pokemon its "weird squirrel with stripes" appearance. This Pokemon's major asset, its heated 'gauntlets,' is an homage to the trope of the Power Fist, a weapon used by many characters in popular media. Its bandit-like appearance is another homage to the common trope of 'rogue,' a fantasy archetype known for their speed and high damage output. It also plays into the idea of the Chinese Zodiac, in particular the rat (who came in first in the race!). This is a reference to the rest of the fire starters in Pokemon, essentially pointing out that the fire starter of this region is a fake; a usurper that dethroned the 'true' fire starter, Arsinoot. Theme-wise, this Pokemon represents the juggler, a dextrous performer whose coordination and dextrity ensures their safety as they juggle balls, torches, swords, and other such dangerous implements.
NUMBOLT: The native name of this Pokemon translates to 'deadeye,' referring to its incredible speed and accuracy in the hunt, seamlessly transitioning from maneuvering through the branches to knife-throwing insect Pokemon out of the sky. It is light on their feet, able to leap around trees without as much as disturbing the leaves. Its highly conductive fur is very good at generating electricity, enabling it to 'charge' its fireballs, turning them into a plasma-like substance. This electric-imbued fire burns through the exoskeleton and disrupts the metabolic functions of a bug, knocking them out cold. The design for this Pokemon builds upon its previous inspirations, with added elements from wolves and tigers, two groups of animals that perfectly captures the spirit of this Pokemon: a ruthless and highly efficient hunter. Adding to its rogue motif, this Pokemon has grown into its roguish charm: its unwieldy gauntlets turning into feathery sleeves akin to a flamenco dancer's, and its rather awkward technique of throwing fireballs changing to one using electrical manipulation. Their overconfidence is palpable, and their comeuppance is just around the corner. Their coloration is slightly more saturated to show its journey down a darker path, with blue flame accents added to reflect its masterful control of fire. For its theme, this Pokemon represents the magician, a skilled showman and highly trained performer all at once, they use quick dexterous movements of the hand (and props) to create fantastic illusions.
NIMIGNIS: So great is the power barely contained within this Pokemon that one can see afterimages of it as it sprints around at speeds several times the speed of sound. Cursed to remain in motion, this Pokemon will twitch and vibrate violently when frozen or otherwise stopped. This makes it a particular difficult Pokemon to capture and study in captivity, leading to very fleeting accounts of their behaviors. What is known is that this Pokemon is shadowed in folklore and misconceptions, leading many to speculate it is not a Pokemon at all, but a spirit of one unwilling to die. The design of this Pokemon solidifies its connection to the Chinese Zodiac, with long sleeves popular among the ancient Han monarchs, swirling fire motifs, and a deep red (a symbol of luck in Chinese) replacing the orange of its fur and additional gold accents. This parallels the evolutionary lines of the Chimchar and Tepig families. Another part of the idea of this Pokemon revolves around the revenant: a cadaver or spirit that has been brought back to life to haunt the living. This idea ties in with its typing, which has a quadruple weakness to Ground: hence, to defeat this Pokemon, one must 'bury' it and lay it to rest. Black lightning and blue flames replace the previous colors, adding to its ghostly appearance, as well as being references to several pop culture characters. Its blank expression also adds to its zombie/revenant inspiration. The final part of its design revolves around Susanoo, a Japanese deity that controlled the sea and storms. A chaotic, disgraced character exiled from Heaven due to his incendiary actions, he wandered the earth to search for atonement. Thematically, this Pokemon represents the trapeze artist. With grace and grand showmanship, these high-flying acrobats perform death-defying stunts as they swing bar to bar.

NAMES
----------
Arsinoot comes from the words 'arson,' i.e. the criminal act of deliberately burning down property; 'bandicoot,' a similar Australian marsupial it is partially based on; and 'snoot,' a slang term for an animal's snout, in this case pointing out the long, tapered snouts of the numbat (they're tiny little anteaters!).
Numbolt is a simple portmanteau of the words 'numbat,' the animal it is based on; and 'bolt,' i.e. to run or move quickly, as well as being a reference to its unique fire-lightning bolt attack.
Nimignis is a combination of the words 'nimble,' reflecting its extremely quick movement; 'ignis,' Latin for fire; and 'Agni,' the Hindu god of fire. It is also meant to be a corruption of the word 'nemesis,' i.e. an arch-rival, and the name of the Greek goddess of retribution for those who fall to hubris (in other words, 'karma').
