Description ok this is my first attempt to make IR shot.
i've tried 2 different techniques of post-processing but still not happy with the results.
where do i go wrong?
i need your comments and some serious advice as i dont know how to get rid of that purple hint from the picture
plus the loss of the details is terrible and sharpening makes it worse

Whoa, awesome colours..Love that tender hue of lilac or something..Match perfectly with blue. Those clouds and reflections makes this totally dreamy..Beautiful. Just beautiful.

composition wise, I feel theres a bit conflict between the reflection of the water and the sky! The Sky needs to either be Bluer to contrast the water or Blacker to create a symmetry. Also over all brighter would be best.

this is real nice. btw..
loss of detail ...humm i guess it has to do with using the kit lens wide open at its widest. (almost all kit lenses are awful when focused to infinity wide open.
use f8 next time and let me know.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

paweldomaradzki In reply to mhazzaa [2008-06-15 13:56:31 +0000 UTC]

oh, didnt know that
thanks for the tip
same aperture with the wide lens? as i havent try it yet with my sigma

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

mhazzaa In reply to paweldomaradzki [2008-06-15 23:19:45 +0000 UTC]

I may be wrong, check all your pictures that have focus to infinity with aprature f3.5 and see for your self.
kit lens is crap... the sigma is probably a dedicated wide lens.. so they will do better..
I understand that IR needs a tripod and long exposures.. so don't use wide aprature and compensate with a slower shutter (not sure if this goes with IR).. use something like f5.6 or (or more like f11 if the conditions allow it)
Landscape = larger depth of field = greater aprature value.

paweldomaradzki In reply to mhazzaa [2008-06-17 18:00:42 +0000 UTC]

well i dont really shot with f3.5 so you might be right
ill try higher f number next time
thanks

PS: Image>Adjustments>Hue/saturation try to desaturate Reds and Magentas. Then some blue places will remain at both banks in this picture, you can use Color Replacement Tool and turn it to color you will pick with eyedropper from some nearly white bush/tree. Works well I think...
