Norael is a generally friendly guy that is easy to get along with, though he lacks many basic social skills. Since childhood, he lived on an out-of-the-way island with inhabitants that were always friendly with one another on a personal level, so he isn't all that aware that he shouldn't be actively friendly with every stranger he comes across. This usually makes him come across as pushy or disrespectful of space or privacy, but he means well by his actions.

Nor is a man who requires direction, but struggles with instruction. He is an extremely complacent person and is good with being given orders and following them through. Being told how these things should be done is where he often finds difficulty. With a preference of thinking of his own solutions to problems or tasks, trying to get instructions correct to a T tends to cause him to fumble when following them through. Coming up with his own solutions is one of the only ways he knows to allow his creativity to show.

With a general lack of the ability to give himself direction, Nor often puts himself in positions where others will give him things to do. He grew up somewhere where there wasn't much outside of the day-to-day chores and work and, in turn, he never really developed the need to do anything more than what he was told to do. In this regard, many people would consider him a type of wallflower; not much about him in the open and not much of an interesting person off the bat.

► H I S T O R Y
Born on a small, out-of-the-way island of mainly farming, fishing, and top-notch hospitality, Norael had a childhood that could be described as "openly secluded". He didn't come to know anyone outside of the island's inhabitants. The island didn't harbor much wildlife, let alone the kind to be eaten, so a majority of it's inhabitants are pescetarians. Not being one of the island dwellers that made various trips to mainland, he fell in line with the common diet and didn't experience much of any foreign foods. He doesn't particularly dislike dishes poultry or meats but they are unknown to him and he finds the taste to be something he can only describe as 'strange.'

Father having parted from the family very early on, Nor was the 'man of the house' and he and his triplet sisters started helping their mother with the field work on their vegetable farm at a very young age. His mother, being a woman not seeking much out of anyone and very independent, was thankful for the help that they gave, all of the work being too much for her to handle alone. Barely past the triplet's eleventh birthdays, the more sickly of the three passed on due to sickness. Following her sea funeral, they rarely spoke about her, not wanting to reopen the wound of her death. She was meant to have died in the womb, so they were thankful for the time she received.

In school, he always listened to his teachers and did the work they assigned. His grades always did well, but his teachers always made it a point to mention how much time he took and the struggles he had with following step-by-step instructions. Especially ones that allowed for creative changes. They would have taken it as him being 'slow,' had he not done perfectly fine with the other work given to him. Nor received some teasing for it and his teachers often questioned why it was so hard for him when he clearly wasn't stupid and called him different variations of “difficult,” but it didn't bother him. He simply understood that they didn't understand and didn't see any point in explaining it.

He lived under direction for all of his 23 years on the island, not having too many reasons to set his own goals, so it never occurred to Nor that he hadn't often thought of anything outside of the island. Following standing in for one of the island dwellers that visited the mainland for trade (around the age of 20), he found that he took an interest in the other people that he met. In the three years following, he began to consider the world outside of the island, though he wasn't sure what to do with the thoughts. If he had considered leaving, where would he go? He had barely ever thought of something for himself so he wasn't sure how to go about venturing elsewhere.

The answer to his lack of ideas came in the form of a flyer someone brought from the mainland that almost looked like a joke. But it seemed worth a try anyway. Something to do. Somewhere to go. Something that wasn't the same thing he had done for years. After the decision, he got his mother's blessing on the idea, packed his things, hitched a ride on one of the boats headed for mainland, made his way to the station the flyer mentioned and hopped on board the train to something new.
