Description This shouldn't be here. :I I'll regret putting it here later, I'm sure.

Here is a single result of me trying to recover from artistic stagnation. I can't say the hiatus is really helping in terms of improvement, but anything resembling more than a couple of shaky lines is better than nothing at this point.

An Andirg pallanoph hanging out in a maple tree for no explanation that I can think of. At least he had the sense to climb a sugar maple, a hardwood maple, instead of something more... bendy. And if you don't know what a pallanoph is, visit this deviation and read the blurb there. It should clear up some things for you.

Brush pen in sketchbook, 5x7", slightly smaller than actual size.

So this is late (I've been muddled; it's about time I got back to showing support), but have I told you how much I love seeing your lovely 'nophs? The bold lines in this piece are also quite wonderful. My favorite is the ear fluffs in the tree leaves. When you finish compiling the book about these guys and their world, you'll let us know, won't you?

I'd LOVE to be able to do woodcut well. In the meantime, I'll cheat.

Lovely to see you back!

Also, if you're in a bit of a slump, I'd recommend The Artists Way by...Julia Cameron? I think? I'm not usually one for 'self help' books but this is more like a 'self-unearthing' book, and I'll swear by it till the day I die.

I'll have to check it out, that's for sure. It would be nice to trample this feeling of regret and get back to actually wanting to do art!

And thanks for the suggestion!

YES. That's exactly what this book is for. It slingshotted me from doing a sketch every three weeks to doing three graphic novel pages a week, plus 1000+ words of writing, and usually another image or so on top of that. I don't know how it works, but it does.

I love the fur texture, especially the lynx-like ear tufts.

Very happy to see some more of your work. I personally think it looks wonderful, but the important part is if you're satisfied with it. I hope your art block will resolve itself so we can continue to marvel at your pallanophs. :}

I'd like the patience to accomplish more, that's for sure. But I suppose I should just have more patience, since it feels like I'm starting over.

Thanks for your continued support, dear!

You've certainly not lost any skills to your art-block; the pattern and level of black and white here looks perfect.

I've been making a point, if I accomplish any art at all, to improve the contrast in my work. It's difficult, since it seems to be at odds with my detail-fetish.

It can be pretty difficult sometimes... I recall when I found it very difficult to darken my images for fear of losing detail and clarity.

Regardless, here's a hug:

Aw, that's a shame; I hope it's nothing too serious. Whenever you get the chance though, even if you don't want to post it on dA, sketch a little something so you won't ever lose that talent.
Here's an epic high five back to you!

pallanoph In reply to Furrama [2013-06-24 06:43:43 +0000 UTC]

I'm glad to hear it! It's just that I feel it belongs on a sketch blog somewhere, and I guess regret is a weird word for that.

Furrama In reply to pallanoph [2013-06-24 19:57:46 +0000 UTC]

I don't like tumblr because of how hard it is to keep watch over your things and their comment system/feedback is terrible. So are their size restrictions and stuff, and random blogs are hard to follow.

If you put nothing but black and white art or sketches here I'd say you were still doing great art. I still like to see things from you now and again. But if you think this sort of thing is subpar or not something you want out in front representing you, you can always throw them in scraps. Your diehard fans will still be watching.
