Description So for class, we had to make a low poly model. I attempted to make Ansen, then when I had gone over the poly limit (1500 tris), I realized I really didn't want to reduce him. So instead, I made his cat.

Modeled in Maya, and it came out to 742 tris. I really should post more of my 3D work.

The eyes are creepy, almost humanlike, I think I'm gonna call her manticore, whenever I see her.

I actually got that comment from several of my friends saying how friggin' creepy it was.

Next time I need to go with a different style of eyes. D:

Great! I'm looking forward to seeing more of 3D manticore... ermm, I mean fluffy. Her Eyes are way small [link] kinda weird for a cat since it's nocturnal, but I love that little canister on her neck, reminds me of one of those Alpine Life Saving Giant Dogs (I forgot which breed and which country) that carry alcohol around their neck.

Oh sweet!

I would highly recommend it. The kind of intense teaching I get here (from not only my teaching, but my peers as well) is amazing. The things I would warn about it, though, is that for one, make sure that art/animation is what you want to do in life. The school really doesn't offer many electives, so you're on a straight path. Two, be prepared to learn about many different things relating to the field... but specialize in one thing on your own time. And three, be prepared to take critique. One of the first days in class, we were told to pull out the second best drawing from our summer sketchbook. We were then told to tear it in half, because "DigiPen doesn't want your second best" and "it's time to stop treating your drawings like they're precious." Get water on that sketch you've been working on? Who cares, you're an artist--draw a new one.

But the cool thing about DigiPen is that it gives you the skills to just whip out a new picture.

Haha, sorry about rambling, but I do like my school.

Huh, I haven't heard of him. D: I know a fellow SheezyArtist who will be attending DigiPen next year. Lol, we all need to have a meet or something.

Awesome man. Follow your dreams!

I hope so too! From what I've seen, you should.

Don't tell them I said this (and things might have changed), but according to the former Dean the thing they really look for in a portfolio is that you can draw, and that you can improve. They're pretty open to people because a huge amount of people drop out.

Haha, they probably won't. The teachers I know appreciate good gestures. Action and the ability to have that kind of movement is important in animation, and you can easily tell if someone's got good energy just by what gestures they draw.

Holy shit this is cute. Alpha whiskers? They look great!

I haven't textured mine yet, but then again I am not going to GDC. :B

Haha, yah. I had to do seperate materials for the whiskers, because for some reason the entire model was tuning transparent whenever I did the alpha thing to the entire model. Not fun times. Stupid maya.

I'm still working on my unwrap. :B I had it finished and then crashed Maya by telling it to render the template thing. YAY HOORAY and stupid Maya, indeed!
