Do you know what the circular openings were for? Light? Air holes? I can see they can be blocked off from the hole you can see into on the narrow end of the house. Thank you for sharing!

They are windows. In the Iron Age, saw was pretty unknown tool, so the window holes were carved with an axe. The windows were also seen as "the eyes of the house", that's why they are shaped like that.
