what kind of sword is he holding? is it a form of slime spell or something?

My guess would be that it's an Acidic weapon, dealing extra acid damage on a blow. But it could be any number of things.

Either way I like the piece and would happily use it as a character portrait!

I honestly hadn't thought too hard about it beyond really wanting a bright saturated color/light source!

It's 300 dpi, so it should be okay to print out, though of course I always appreciate money from prints!
