Great peice.
I dig the ink work.
Yes hes a strange one, really on the balance of his life. On one side he wants to be a part of the family and his new world but on the other he just wants to eat all of them

Kudos for the mentions on your post. I couldn't agree more on Deviant's decision for the winner. I had a similar experience with the Dr.Pepper Contest; I felt like throwing my computer out the window! Ha! Really thought I was at least going to get an honorable mention on that one.

BUT along with losing comes the hunger to win next time, wherever, whenever and whatever it might be. So best of luck to you and in the words of the infamous Jay-Z, "On to the next one!"
NOW, if I may join you in your rant for a bit, it was my understanding that the winner's portrait would be given to Burton as a gift and in all honesty I thought something like this, like your wonderful piece here, would be the kind of work appreciated by Mr.Burton, more so than the standard (clichΓ©) digital painting. Granted, the ones chosen had technical savvy, but no life, especially the life that is portrayed in both the original Dark Shadows and it's comedic remake.
So kudos to you and this art piece. I say send it to Burton anyways, on your own accord, and maybe he'll get eyes on it and at least enjoy it.
Lesson learned: Deviant Judges are not necessarily out-of-box thinkers.
Oooookay. Done ranting! Thanks and cheers!

Wow. Your Dr Pepper work was just as good as this one! Great concept.
Like you, I wonder whether or not the outcome would have been different if he had seen all the art. Or even a top hundred. I can see dA weeding out the doodles, repetitive entries, the weird stuff posted by trolls, etc, and then just showing him the entries that were completed, clean works. But I reckon celebrities are busy people, and probably only do stuff like this to promote their movies. *shrug*

You probably nailed it on the head right there. But it's all good. Till next time on these competitions! Good luck to you.
Thanks for the kudos on the Dr.Pepper art. Ha. Actually, it might've been for the best they didn't chose my self portrait for their advertisement. That might be a pretty shameful way to sell out: an artist's self portrait for cooperate funds and appraisal.
Best wishes,
Nate

Thanks! I doubt it is " portrait worthy " but I sure wanted to do a shadow on brick wall.

You have done an outstanding job with originality! To put in that much time and dedication to the movie, you have really proved that you have the skills of a deadline driven artist that can go far in the industry.
