An abandoned psd file by amaeli amaeli.deviantart.com/art/PSD-… gave us the idea for a very unique project.

A project where 3 CAD skinners have come together to try their skills on the exact same psd source.

The fruits of this collaborative gathering can now be downloaded as a pack of 3 different skins.
A pack that's named after the working title of this project.

Directors' CAD

please, check out the previews of the other two involved skinners and their skins:

eos8 - "Duality"
barberioX - "Just - Lust"

please, make sure to give them proper devlove !!

...and who am i to deprive you of that one particular missing skin?

i've added a (dropbox-)download link to the very top of my deviation description. unfortunately i wasn't able to compile the binaries to a *.cskin file so you'll have to install the skin the old-fashioned way, which is as easy as unzipping the zip and then moving the extracted folder to your CAD's "skins" folder.

hope it works and makes for that remedy you've been hoping for. tell me if not.

and hey... thanks so much for your sentiment and kindness!!

File not found anymore on the dropbox link! *sadface

First, thanks for taking the time out of your day to help me out! Really, thank you!! Also, for any one else trying to download on the new link above: I noticed that once you click on the link confirming you want to leave DA, the hyperlink you click sends you to an error message from dropbox with an obviously wrong URL. However, upon closer inspection of the actual hyperlink I was able to get the complete and correct URL. So, for anyone who has any trouble:

dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/81…

Thanks again Otis, keep doing what you do! Whatever it may be

It's not working anymore right? Too bad. But the preview looks really neat.

it's still working flawlessly. the download link is just a bit hidden in my "artist's comments".
well, try this [link] and it will take you to that skin's download location.

Love the background, any chance that you might be able to explain to me how u made it. `

Thx in advance, keep up the impressive work!
Grty h&m

OtisBee In reply to HimandMe [2009-01-14 15:40:58 +0000 UTC]

well, actually i'm not very good at making tutorials.

let's see...
....basically i placed 4 equal sized chunks of a wooden wallpaper on a background with a pattern you see in the preview image.
i then added some bevel, inner- and outer shadow to those chunks to make them look more 3D.
also i added some radial and rather transparent gradient on the patterned background to give a little more depth to the overall appearance.
i guess that was pretty much it.

if you haven't seen it already you can download the finished wallpaper from here.

i hope that was helpful.

thanks for your kind feedback.

I really like the effect in your title and the background, what's your profession? -No 300's answer is not valid- cause you have a great sense of aesthetic -mispelled for sure- so, my congrats for that and for your PSD rescue . And as u can see, I'm taking a break from my homework for check DA stuff hehe Downloading...

OtisBee In reply to hypostatic [2008-10-16 11:25:09 +0000 UTC]

my profession?
well, i started out as a joiner, building furniture, windows, doors, stairs and stuff from wood.
today, i'm a stage technician at the local opera house doing whatever comes to mind regarding the topic of wood.

designing and skinning CAD just became a rather intense hobby for me.
i know this will never happen, but i'm still kinda dreaming of a situation where someone would knock on my door and say: "Otis, we need you here as a designer! hurry up!"

well, time will tell.

anyways...
...i'm so glad you've found the time to comment on this my part of the "Directors' CAD".

Thank YOU!

ohhh interesting, I have been intereste in learn about carpenter in general, furniture cause my sisterinlaw's family live very well from that but it's just a dream too. You should consider become a furniture designer, but it's something complicated cuase time sometimes don't let you do everything, anyway, good luck with your skins!.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

OtisBee In reply to hypostatic [2008-10-17 08:58:39 +0000 UTC]

the good thing about NOT having designing as my main profession is, that now i can take all the time i want to finish a project.
i think it would be a lot more pressure when i'd suddenly have to deal with deadlines and a scheduled workflow.

"you can't rush art!"

...and i think working as a professional designer may have quite an impact on my creational functionality.

i don't know. time will tell, i guess.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hypostatic In reply to OtisBee [2008-10-17 15:34:15 +0000 UTC]

That's absolutely truth, "you can't rush art" But clients can, hahaha. Believe, creativity problems by deadlines, happens to me, but with -a lot of- practice your work become less slow and more effective.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

OtisBee In reply to hypostatic [2008-10-18 10:31:37 +0000 UTC]

if there'd be lessons for becoming faster and more effective, i'd join them for sure.
i'm soooooooooooo slow sometimes and being aware of that often keeps me away from even making a first step.

hypostatic In reply to OtisBee [2008-10-18 23:53:40 +0000 UTC]

Ppractice, practice and buy a lot of books, that helps to generate more ideas even when you don't have the book right there. They are stored in your mind little by little . Good luck .

My CAD folder is getting ... fat
Too much candy
I like the colors, the different modes of this skin.
Not to mention the smooth transition which has me clicking that top left corner every few seconds
Love the Lyrics mode... all-in-one... sweet
Whatever you do SirOtis, never Abandon skinning

OtisBee In reply to jazzava [2008-10-15 08:55:31 +0000 UTC]

okay, i won't.

btw. you don't have to click that top left corner only.
actually it's the entire skin (case.png) that's supposed to react to your clicks.
so, let go on the precise aiming and be more "légère" with your wrist.

thanks for consuming this skin ever so greedyly.
