Accalon
It was a mild summer’s day, warm and sunny; the forest was rich with the thick scent of earth and growth, and Accalon took a moment to fill his lungs, breathing in the woodsy scent with relish.

He was on the way to the New Oak, a journey he didn’t make quite as often these days, what with his young twins and his ever-growing only daughter and middle son to manage. At most, he usually ventured to the communal gathering grounds once a week, to settle his affairs for the week before returning to his home. This week, however, he had received an unusual message: Lord Owain had sent a messenger requesting his presence at the New Oak on that day, for as yet undisclosed reasons.

Accalon was at something of a loss as to what the older Lord may have wanted, however it would not do to shame his peer by refusing to show. After all, he had no grudge with the golden Lord; indeed, they had not interacted much at all, beyond the cordial greetings and respectful nods usually exchanged by those of a rank.

Arriving at the glade, the large blue stag looked around for the buckskin, his cold brown eyes pausing as he finally caught the glint of gold. Making his way over to the other Lord, nodding greetings to the other Lords and Dukes that greeted him on his way, he finally reached where the older Lord stood. Clearing his throat, Accalon stepped up and inclined his head briefly, though his gaze held his peer’s steadily. “Lord Owain,” he began, his low voice mild and polite, “I received your missive. I understand you wished to see me?”

Owain
Owain was standing close to the New Oak, a way of avoiding most of the other royals like he usually did these days. The golden stag seldom visited the royal glade since the trial of his daughter, even less since her disappearance, but if someone asked him he’d say it was because of his little ones. The normally proud and strong buck had a tired air about him, and despite his best attempts he had a hard time hiding his pain. He looked up at the Oak with a huff; all it symbolised to him was his failures to protect his family and as a reminder of the daughter he had now surely lost. Shaking his head, to resist the impulse of ramming the damned tree, he turned his back to it and looked out over the glade.

To his relief he could see the dark Lord that was his reason for the day’s visit making his way through the groups of royals grazing, and nodded his head at him as Lord Accalon finally reached him. “Lord Accalon, yes,” he said, his voice polite but void of emotion. “It is to my understanding that you’ve been blessed with a son this spring?” he asked, being as straight to the point as he could. Though he’d never interacted with the blue stag personally, he’d gathered he was a good, honest and traditional stag. Owain could only hope he’d listen to his request, and then that the King himself also would. All he wished for was for his new daughters to be safe in the hands of good Lords. Lords that could protect them better than he’d managed with BoAnn and Nuala...

Accalon
The blue Lord raised an eyebrow in surprise at the unusual turn the conversation had taken, caught quite off guard by Owain’s inquiries after his son. His eyes narrowed slightly, calculatingly, as he looked at the older Lord’s set expression, however he saw no reason to deny an obvious truth. Slowly, Accalon inclined his head once before straightening up once more, looking steadily across at the golden stag. “You are not wrong. I was blessed with twins; a son and a daughter.” Accalon paused, unsure of what it was Owain was trying to get at, before his natural preference to cut through flowery words and coy talk overtook.

“Lord Owain, if you will forgive my impudence, I am sure you did not ask me here to inquire after matters of my family. What is it that you wished to ask of me?” Accalon’s voice was firm and brusque though polite, however his expression was shrewd. He had heard good things of the Lord, despite Owain’s unfortunate trend when it came to the fate of his daughters, however they had never been friends and he knew that the other Lord would not have made it a point to call him out without good reason.

Was this something about Aquila? Accalon’s brow furrowed slightly at the thought, wondering what his son could possibly have to do with this.

Owain
Owain smiled slightly at the other Lord’s impatience, something he had heard was typical for the blue stag. After nodding his head, Owain moved on to the matter at hand. He weighed his words carefully, eyes locked at the brown eyes before him. “Indeed I did, Lord Accalon. You see, the gods have blessed me with another princess daughter this spring. As yours is a family is one of great honour and great minds, it would be an honour to join our houses.” The golden Lord’s expression was collected and calm, hiding his emotions. He desperately hoped the other stag would listen and take some time to think about his proposal, for he truly believed the blue Lord to be able to raise a son that would be able to keep Eala safe.

The older Lord turned his gaze over the glade, allowing the younger some time to think without eyes on him. Despite his tired appearance he carried himself proudly, as he let his mind wander for a moment. He hoped he’d made the right choice by calling upon Lord Accalon. Maybe, by trying convince King Rafe to listen to his wished for his daughters’ betrothal, he could avoid the thing that happened to BoAnn, Fenella and Nuala. Just maybe, things would turn out alright this time.

Accalon
Accalon’s face remained impassive, though his eyes widened minutely at the old Lord’s words when they came, delivering a request that was quite unexpected. Clearing his throat in an effort to find words, Accalon flicked an ear. “I...see.”

It was a well-known fact Owain was a Lord in good standing. Despite his gold coat and his lack of the title of Count, Owain’s family was known to have been favoured by the King’s line through two iterations of Kings; the favourable marriages of all his children and his firm place at Rafe’s side spoke to that more than any words might have. To have Owain himself approach with a proposal to join their families was clearly a favourable twist of events.

However… Accalon couldn’t help the slight curl of apprehension in his chest. As favoured as Owain himself was, and how physically perfect his mate and children, it was also a badly-kept secret that all his daughters seemed ill-fated. Runaways; blessed and cursed by the gods. It was only natural, therefore, that the blue Lord found himself feeling as if he stood upon a precipice. To refuse Owain would shame the older Lord and would forever taint relations between their houses. But to accept might mean dooming his youngest son.

A covert glance at the golden Lord decided him. Had he seen the look of one out for nothing but political machinations, he would have refused and damn it all. But what he saw was a father, old and tired and as worried for the future as Accalon himself.

Inclining his head, Accalon let out a breath and, hoping he wasn’t making a terrible mistake, called Owain attention back to himself. “I... would not be opposed to such a notion,” he began gravely. “If it is as Ognach and the King wish it, it would please me to acquiesce,” he finished, smoother than he had begun.

He could only hope he had made the right choice.

There's still time for more princesses to be born! They're getting more plentiful now at least xD I think there were a couple of people who had possible prons...? Need to go dig through journals again.

Not in a hurry anyway. Having a princess at the age of 5 is still pretty illogical age 8-10 sounds better.
