Description Riordan stared back at the flames. "Every time I partake in a joining I keep remembering ours, the ones who died, the ones who lived."
Duncan nodded. "I think we all do. I also remember the disappointment on the Senior Warden’s face when you pulled through."
A reluctant smile tugged at the corner of Riordan's mouth. "What did he use to call me again? β€˜The Malfaisant'?"
"I think it was 'Malcreant' actually."
"Yes I think you are right." Riordan smiled slowly. "That has a familiar ring to it."

Gorgeous, as always. His expression is just heartbreaking as he tries so hard not to show his concern, subtle hint of anguish in his eyes, I think. He feels so much and shows so little...you capture that beautifully. And the detail on the chalice...funny how the Joining cup looks so much like a communion chalice...lovely detail there...it holds the eye and makes one shudder to imagine it as the possible harbinger of death.

Love this so much.

He's young and already a master of keeping a straight face, but these two breaths between taking the cup and drinking it must have been very hard. If you haven't zoomed in you must. I'm really pleased with the expression.

I needed that so badly. Oh that nose, those eyebrows, that mouth... Dare I say his chin may be a little bit too small and pointy? The bruising and the swollen lip look perfect and he does have that 'I've just had the worst night and this is not looking good' look of befuddled concern. There are also nice details and an ominous shimmer to the goblet but it took me a while to notice. I got distracted.

Trust you to find something to complain about Riordan actually has quite a pointed chin, especially at some angles though the light might have accentuated it in this image. Unfortunately for Riordan this is only one of his 'worst mornings ever' though I think he'll rank it a top five

I agree about the pointed chin, I think it's the size rather than the shape that bothers me. It looks like it should be a tiny bit bigger, or more precisely, longer, just a little. Anyway, its a minor quibble. He looks adorable. Uh, did I just say 'adorable'? Look what you've done to me!

If he thinks about it it's not that bad, he would never have met Duncan if it weren't for this particular morning. But of course, he didn't know that at the time.

We did have one of the boys mentioning that somewhere but I can't remember if it ended up in the story. Would have been a terrible waste of nice man.

No, I think that got scrapped somewhere. And 'nice man' I'm not sure... handsome but a painful exercise in futility seems more appropriate. At this moment however, he's vulnerable -and extremely hung-over.
