This is my weekly challenge submission for 's weekly challenge 1 which she is doing through her youtube channel and deviantart page . Week 1 was supposed to be centered around the ocean which is something I hold very near and dear to my heart and find a lot of beauty and creative opportunity in. Karen did a piece with a mermaid which is what I was initially thinking of doing but then I decided to go quite a bit more abstract. I like the idea of goddesses and mythical creatures and Ponyo's mother from the movie "Ponyo" so those were both inspirations.
Initially, I wasn't going to add the red head piece but I kind of wanted it to represent sunset because that's something a lot of people think of in association with the beach/ocean. The bubbles/ water droplets are supposed to represent stars. And obviously her hair is the ocean. As far as interpretation goes, that's it.
This piece is pretty minimalist compared with the rest of my art. It was very difficult to stop myself from doing a pattern or something on her head thing. But I'm happy with the result and I feel like I did push myself in some areas while doing this piece.
