I agree, snakes are hugely underappreciated. Although Pretzel's been winning plenty of people over to the snake side - we've had so many people send messages to his blog telling us that he's made them realise snakes aren't that bad after all, haha. His cute face does wonders, it seems!Β

I'd love to have a snake, but I can't because, they're too expensive and too expensive to feed etc., my folks would probably object to it, and where I live you need a permit to own any reptile (not sure what its like in America but in Australia you need one) and that'd be a lot to go throughΒ

Aw dang, that sucks. It's not nearly as bad here in the UK - and in terms of price, feeding a Hognose is pretty cheap, haha! He eats one fluff a week which barely even comes to Β£5 a month (thank you, hognoses, for being such tiny snakes!), and his substrate isn't expensive either - most of the cost was just in getting his vivarium and viv furniture. Hopefully one day you'll be able to have a lively noodle of your own.

I definitely think they've been a great first snake for us! They're not inclined to be bitey, which is good, just...dramatic. As long as you can handle the occasional hiss and bluff, they're really nice snakes, haha. Pretzel's surprisingly calm for a hog, actually - everyone else's seem to be huge divas. xD

Oh, only all the time! Hognoses tend to burrow a lot - he's more inclined to burrow under his substrate when he's close to shedding, though. I dunno why, he just seems to like doing it, haha!

Haha, fairly often. Although at the moment he prefers to curl up in his hide rather than snuggle up under the substrate.

No, Pretzel's our first and only one at the moment! I'm sure when we move into our own place we'll probably get at least one more snake, though.

Oh, I couldn't agree more! It's really nice, though, because we get lots of messages on his tumblr from people saying that Pretzel's made them realise that snakes can be cute, or people saying they used to hate snakes but Pretzel's helped them see them as less scary. I think those are probably the messages that make us the happiest because most snakes really aren't scary at all and it's nice to see people realise that!

Aww, that's so cool! We have garter snakes that live by our front door (well, actually, there are snakes all over our property...). I learned to not pick them up after I got pooped on. Scare them and they release an awful stink as well as their bowels! But the baby snakes don't mind
