Hey, thank you for these tutorials! I'm drawing a lax one, which I won't publish till complete, or not all, because it's for fun and practice, mostly, and these tuts are giving me a lot of ideas for my runs! Thanks so much!

- I'll be ignoring the game elements of not making sense most of the time... But I'm taking the serious route- Check.
- Motivation... CHECK! I have a very good reason for this one
- Pokedex entries... YES... JUST YES! Have you read Glalies? It EATS PEOPLE... Shame mine is in Kanto so I can't do a death like that

you're going to need to implement a lot more consistent world building then, remember this.
note how much time you'll take for pages and how you can fit working on it in between.
oh yes, there's a lot of fun dex entries. froslass is also a dead girl who got lost in the mountains. psh, you can't can you? people are implementing gen 6 info in their older gen nuzlockes, I see no reason why you can't include such things and have it journey there.

Hey Volbs... uh... do you think you can provide any tips about "How to start a nuzlocke". Wha tI mean is... there's this question that pops out frequently. "Do I finish the game first or Write it as I go?" I've been wondering about that. Well, uh... yeah. I finished the game but... that's what bugged me before I started the nuzlocke.

I believe I made that point somewhere in the guides, but I don't recall where exactly. it's basically easier to write after you have all the gameplay done, that way you can properly characterize before deaths and all that

Before reading this. I have a perfect explanation to the black and white game logic of trading that requires a badge first.
that really urked me cuz i had to re-play the game 9 times (the nighth being my real normal run). 1/9 resets involved bianca's tepig crit hitting a female oshawott. yea.. i joked at how weak bianca was to myself and when that battle hit me... well i had to re-evaluate my statement.

yeah, not sure why they did that in black and white, and oh gosh, least that helps you validate why you made her an evil bianca XD

>_> if nintendy never did. evil bianca may have never been born.
i kinda shudder at the thought of how its going to be in X and Y. theres these new mega evos and tons of XY goodies i havent checked yet.

bianca's evil is all nintendo's fault.
I'm both excited and unsure about what's to come in XY. so far seems to be a lot of new goodies and updates, but too much change may not be a good thing >3<

i thin out of the ridiculous mega evos... it has to be amphoras. it has "gallant" white fur. but its face is too depry to take srsly.Β

Some of the mega designs are all right. At least its optional. I wonder what sorts of nuzlocke ideas can stem from these mega evos.Β
if its a gijinka locke, one can make these mega evo speficic mons like the great warriors of kalos or some sort of clan leader cable of changing to a mega. then the lil' torchic for the event distribution Β can be like a lil' rookie with hidden power only to awaken when at the blazikin stage.Β
<_< yea that sounds like a really cool plot.

your only allowed to have one mega on the team and i trainers have to find the respective stones for certain pokemon to evolve.
im really happy i can special train, i never did the EV IV training thing. too much work.
Im thinking there will be all sorts of good runs.

how does that even work, is it a physical game limiter or what? I'm curious how they make that limit.
yeah, about time they made it more accessible.
for sure

ZephyrLightningheart In reply to OddPenguin [2013-08-13 18:23:52 +0000 UTC]
honestly i have no clue. ive read on websites that there's a limit. Β but really theres not much to the mega evos cept whats out there.
ive checked out that you play little mini-games. reminds me of the pokeatholon crossed with KH:3D game of raising critters. ebing able to raise some of its stats. i shall make my team over-powered! though theres probably a limit per stat per pokemon maybe. who knows. but i know im sure to take of advantage of the STrainin' and poke-amie.

yeah, I never played that in KH:3D, but it's neat it was there, and glad they're making the ev iv training more accessible.

Hallelujah!!!!
Hopefully, this (alongside with the rest of your guide) will make some people to stop and try to figure out how to incorporate game things into a story. Too much nuzlockes are started just for the sake of it and while it's completely okay to do it just for fun there is a huge potential wasted if the future author just decides one day to start a nuzlocke and actually starts it on the very same day.Β
I noticed myself huge difference in taking a nuzlocke comic seriously depending on how game mechanism things are elaborated as well as Pokemon world itself.Β

OddPenguin In reply to Leptocyon [2013-08-09 02:10:04 +0000 UTC]
PRAISE THE LORD!!!
I hope so too, and yeah, that's the trend I've been seeing, I've been trying to support some new nuzlockers here and there dropping ocassional tips like that in comments, but it just seems you have to live and learn about it, most of the ones that just started seem to be superficially started without thinking of long term things. that's totally understandabl and all, guess it's just one of those things you have to want to know more about to do right, the ones that want this info will be the ones that have gotten to the level of dedication where they want to improve their run and do more with it, rather than just doing whatever for fun.
oh yeah, it's a huge depender on tone, and that's partly why nuzlockes tend to end up being more humorous, it's easier to write things off as a joke then contemplate a way to figure out how to make it a believable mechanic

In my Fire Red comic that I intend to do when I finish the game, at the begining, the main character tries to climb in the trees to avoid the tall grass and is stopped by Oak. Never seen that one before.

This is probably one of the most important parts of the whole guide. Do I tell you often enough that you are awesome for doing all this?
I swear if I see one more trainer throwing a fit in front of a knee length tree I'm going to cry.
And you should totally sell the bike delivery helicopter idea to someone. It needs to happen.

Sudowoodo is only 1.2m tall, it can't be much wider. What kind of administrations builds an important way so small that a Sudowoodo can block it? xD

These are all good suggestions that tie into "the comic is not the game" point. Lots of people forget that, and that's one of the most beloved aspects in a nuzlocke for me. The rules are there to enhance gameplay, and they do open ground for good ideas or plot twists, but they're not a "but thou must" for the storytelling. As you said, the fact you're given a bike and use it in game, doesn't mean it has to appear in your story. We all know bikes are there in the game, but do we really need to be shown again just for the sake of it, if they're not relevant to what you're trying to tell? And this applies to almost everything. Even a pivotal rule like the death one. Fainted pokΓ©mon can't be used again in battle. Fine. But when it comes to narrative, they can be out of the story due to a lot of imaginable reasons: they leave the team because they're tired; the trainer decides to sell them as experiment fodder; or, if the character is not an amoral psycho, they might decide their pokΓ©mon would be happier if given as pet to a lonely little kid; dunno, as you said, lots of possibilities. As you pointed out, game logic is for the game. Addressing it, and how, is for the writer/artist/both.
Oops. Sorry for the wall of text Anyway, thanks for another interesting episode of this guide

OddPenguin In reply to WetherHead [2013-08-06 13:57:47 +0000 UTC]
yeah, lots of different ways to do the rulings. most people don't use their bike so they have no need to put it in, simple as that. I've gone over that there's plenty of other ways to logic a death in another guide, though I forget in which one exactly. lots of ways to do it, could be a competitive sport where contestants get kicked out of the team if they mess up.
no problem, cool you want to share your opinions and all that, I don't mind Walls of text, almost all my page descriptions end up walls of text
