Description Fun times in the Doctor Who fandom:

There's a ficathon going on over at the Doctor/Rose fix community on LJ.

It's the first time I've participated in such a thing, and I think it's a blast. It's a wonderful way to share ideas and meet other lovely and talented fans.

For instance, bloose09 proposed an idea for a story set during season 1 in which the Ninth Doctor, Rose Tyler, and Jack Harkness end up operating a detective agency while stranded on Earth. I'm such a film noir nerd, I just adored this concept and came up with this picture inspired by it. This particular Team Tardis would make fantastic PIs wouldn't they? If Jack could keep himself from doing cheesy voice over narration for everything they did....

YES. I APPROVE OF THIS.

(On a completely unrelated matter; what the /hell/ have DA done to the italics THIS time? )

Oh yes. If any of the Doctors is going to be a film noir PI it's simply GOT to be nine! I'm loving Cap'n Jack's hairstyle - and the foreshortening on his arm and the paper. How exactly did you get that printing on there anyway, and with that perfect foreshortening on the type, too? Also, I very much appreciate the lovely edgings on Miss Tyler's stockings...

Jack doing a cheesy voice-over narration would be the BEST part.

The text is all photoshoppery, I was not doing well with putting the lettering in by hand. Basically I just rotated the text box to roughly the right angle, rasterized the layer (so I could manipulate it as an image but couldn't edit it as text anymore), then used the warp transform to match up the edges of the text box with the corners of the business card as I'd drawn it. And then I did it all again cause I realized I had a typo on the card, lols.

I was pretty nervous about the dramatic foreshortening, so I'm glad it works okay!

This is AMAZING!!! So realistic and excellent attempt at period setting and costume. You know, the 9th Doctor always struck me as a Humphrey Bogart type

Thanks, glad you like the look of it!

You're right, there's a little bit of Bogart and Bacall in the Nine and Rose dynamic.

Wow! Amazing. Holy crap Jack is a super stud. I think everyone should always wear period clothes - men in waistcoats is where it's at!

so i love he foreshortening on the card, and Jack's arm, and how bright Jack's eyes are. As usual just the shading on 9's face is great. I don't know how you do cheekbones so well with no lines, just paint, but it's amazing. Did you do this all in sepia or did you paint it in color and sepia it in photoshop?

Phew, I'm glad the extreme foreshortening worked. I don't even know what I was thinking, trying that mess.

It's all just painted in a mixture of brown and black paint with varying amounts of water. Much faster than mixing all the colors and turning down the saturation subsequently. I did the same thing with the photobooth pictures.
