Mostly reds up where I am thankfully, hopefully they can be protected.

I couldnt do it but seems to be the only option, least it wasn't cane toads they brought over.

It's not only the disease they give to the Reds, it's also the large number of songbirds they kill & eat.
Back in the late '80s, at Wildscreen, I saw a great film on the Cane Toad, and to see & hear all the delegates laughing their heads off, as a car zigzags down a road and you hear these pops & bangs as it runs over cane toads, made it even better

I didnt realise they ate songbirds, I guess animals will eat pretty much anything though. Yeah got to love the Aussies and their irreverent sense of humour I think I may have seen the film you are talking about, there is a more recent one I caught also. There are some of them on You Tube www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SBLf1… andΒ  www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PxxLt…

Songbirds & their eggs. It's the main reason we shoot the bastards, though we have no Reds here, the greys are best done away with.
That first video was the one I saw at Wildscreen.

Do the reds not rob nests or are they just far less likely to? They are certainly a lot smaller so maybe the birds can deal with them better. I didnt realise woodpeckers would take young birds either until recently. It's brutal out there!

Reds are Vegans
Thank the gods our woodpeckers don't.

This year the beeches and oaks and hickories around here have produced a really huge crop of nuts. I can often hear the squirrels gnawing on them!

Beautiful . The first time I saw a squirrel was in the Botanic Garden of Dublin. I was very amazed because they were really friendly. In Spanish gardens you cannot see them. Only doves. ItΒ΄s and incredible shot.
