Description I enjoyed drawing this NIGHTMARE FUEL (ed: thanks, TVTropes!) way too much. *Razzek 's 'Growing Up Oocca ' got me thinking about the other side of the Oocca life cycle.

Oocca are (c) Nintendo

edit: Nobody ever pointed out how Ooccoo's empty head resembles Hieronymus Bosch's "Tree-man" so I guess I will just go ahead and mention that. I think I saw Bosch's painting of Earthly Delights in a Time-Life book when I was about ten years old.

No wonder I am possessed of crazy visions.

There is a special spot in artistic hell reserved for you, where you will be forced to draw zombie fetus Redeads for all time.

As very clever as it is, you didn't need to make her more terrifying than she already is.

Great! This seems so appropriately bizarre.

I love the choice of colors, and the lineart is excellent as well.

Two things:
1. I will need brain bleach, and some chicken because this picture made me want some to eat, as creepy as all hell.
2. congrats, TVTropes links to this page on LoZ's Nightmare Fuel!

1. Bwahaha! I'm pretty hungry myself atm, but I'm not sure I could stomach chicken.
2. Woooo! I love TVTropes! Does that make me famous?

1. Lulz.
2. I dunno, ask TVTropes themselves, they have a deviantart page. I think it's called "Tropers", but I don't know.

The style of this piece reminds me of the mental vaults' memories in Psychonauts. Ever play that game?

notreallypurple In reply to Macgyver644200 [2009-12-12 22:35:05 +0000 UTC]

Oh lands, Psychonauts. Yes, yes I played it, and it changed my life forever (even after Grim Fandango had already changed my life forever). Right after the 'The World Shall Taste my Eggs!' reel when Raz went, 'What the hell?' I laughed like a fool. It was like watching a game protagonist comment on a bad programming glitch. Not till lots later did I realize the significance and symbolism and I'm so glad I did not at the time. It was seriously funny. The whole game was.

I found this through one of TV Tropes' "Nightmare Fuel" pages. Congratulations on getting noticed there!

And yes, that is an interesting observation about the... growth on the back of Ooccoo's head. (How do you even pronounce that?)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

notreallypurple In reply to Dogman15 [2009-08-28 09:11:52 +0000 UTC]

Oh lawks, I love the daylights out of the TV Tropes site! Thanks for mentioning it, I actually feel kinda-a-little-famous now. XD Which page, may I ask, has the link to this pic?

Perhaps I have made an interesting observation; I can only hope I have not made it too logical because I wouldn't want to take anything away from the wtf-ness of the Oocca. I gave it some thought just now and edited the pic's desc to give some credit to Hieronymus Bosch , dude of the 1400s, who snorted too many daisies.

Also.. 'ooka?' No idea!

My sister likes to watch me play this game (back before I beat it.) Even though she's in 8th grade, she still likes me to read out loud what the characters say (do I do good voices?) I've always pronounced it "Oh-kkk-oh" and "oh-koh-a".

I didn't think it was possible, but you succeeded. You made the Oocca even more creepy. ._.

That aside, the drawings and color choices are fantastic. The rough edges on the panels are also a really nice touch.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

notreallypurple In reply to XVideociraptorX [2008-11-23 11:39:54 +0000 UTC]

Oh, thank you. n.n That means more to me than you know, since I am always doubtful of my ability with colors. I just kinda slap them on, yanno? But when I saw it shrunken down into a thumbnail, I thought, 'hey, not bad' myself. I think that's the best way to tell.

Also heavens forbid that I didn't make the oocca grotesque enough. XD Horrible dear things. I don't even have a Wii or a gamecube, though I'm considering getting one just to play Z:TP.

I confess I haven't even played it.. I just got swept up in the fandom. And then stopped cold by the freaky oocca. How can they be so weird! They don't make any sense! X)

I was posting okay there for a while, but I've run dry on art again. It's kind of you to comment tho. :}
