Nice. I highly enjoy this. If Nintendo ever ages up the universe, they got to get you on the phone.

Fantastic work!

Here's a question for everyone, though: am I the only one who thinks Waluigi's name is quite possibly the dumbest and most unimaginative thing ever?
"Wario" is named as such because they just flipped the 'M' from "Mario" upside down in creating the opposite of Mario. Which is fine. It worked very well.
But seriously, what was the meeting like in creating "Waluigi"?
"Alright, so it's the brother of Wario, what do we call him? Seriously, first idea will be it."
"D'uhhhhhhmmmm... Wario... Wa... Waluigi?"

Why not use the same formula used to create Wario? Flip the 'L' upside-down and pass it off as a slightly misshapen 'R'. Call him "Ruigi" or something.

They put no effort into creating his name. No care.

...Aaaaaanyway, nice job on the illustration! haha

Just to say, because there´s no upside down L, they used an anagram of the japanese word ijiwaru (opposite i think) iji- wa-ru= waruigi (japanese don´t have the L). Also it´s an anagram of "warui"(evil) + luigi, meaning evil luigi, like "wario" does use the word warui too, to mean mario´s bad side". It´s not just putting the "wa" before Luigi

I see I see... but, has that officially been explained, or would you venture that there are more people than just me who found it a silly, lazy, uncreative move? I'm not saying I do as much, now. That explanation actually makes quite a lot of sense.
Just, you know, if most people don't know that, then it probably wasn't the best move when translating it for the American market. Because I know character names and such can very easily be changed, if there's a good reason. Unless the creative department was just stumped.
And, I mean, if that is the case, then I can see why they kept it as such. Plus, I suppose, if you know who "Wario" is, then you'll pretty much understand who "WaLuigi" is supposed to be, naturally.

But you'd think they'd've at least gone with "Wuigi" or "Waigi" or something, though.

I dunno. Anyway, thank you very much for that enlightening fact. =]

Hmm, you are right about character name changes between countries but i suposse they just kept waluigi because it can sounds a little better than "fuigi" "wuigi" or "tuigi". Just try it. Say "Wario and Waluigi". Then say "Wario and Wuigi/Fuigi/ etc" XD

spacecow4 In reply to EASMO [2007-09-26 23:03:03 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I know. I thought about that after I posted my last reply and re-read it. My examples would sound, and probably be misread, as something like, "Wooeeguy" and "Wayjee" or something. haha...

So I suppose, in that respect, "WaLuigi" works. Because as I pointed out, people will already know who Wario is and how to pronounce his name, so it will only be obvious when "Waluigi" comes along.
