My submission for the 'Light' June doodle prompt. (Titles taken from the LJ Fanart 100 prompts - my victims for this series are the House of Fëanor)Characters: Finwë, Míriel, infant Fëanor.
(all from The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien) The light-emanating tree they're visiting is one of the Two Trees of Valinor - the golden one.I'm kind of disappointed about how lame the text turned out - I originally thought Finwë would say something like "his first word was silmë" - you know, like in 'silmarils', so that Fëanor's obsession with light would be obvious from early on... That was before the Quettaparmar informed me that 'silmë' is only used for silvery light. Darn, wrong Tree there. So, no silmarils pun in the end. Meh. Anyway... I wouldn't actually be surprised if light (whichever) did turn out to be little prodigious Fëanor's first word. I definitely can't see him uttering 'mama' or 'papa' like a normal baby.

I can just imagine baby Feanor saying in a cute baby voice "cala" (at least I think that's the Quenya word for light). Very adorable!
And Feanor just... isn't normal. But we love him anyways.

Hmm, did not know that 'L' was a difficult sound. But I can ?hear? why. And Feanor with his craziness about language... there's a fanfiction theory that in Mandos Feanor was bored and wanted to learn Valarin. Mandos was so infuriated with Feanor being Feanor that he allowed it. Why does that not surprise me?

'L' and 'r' (trilled) are possibly the most difficult speechsounds for small children. But I have every hope that Feanor acquired both exceptionally quickly, even for an Elf child.
Well, he had already known some Valarin before his death, per HoME, so why not build on that. Especially when it enables you to eavesdrop on your jailers.

Oh yes... hear the latest news since no Elf will speak to him in all probability. Perhaps he has Maedhros and the Ambarussa pick up news for him as they are probably out of his sons the ones whom Elves are most willing to speak to. Maglor is still out there somewhere.

I wouldn't necessarily call this particular scene fussing, given that most parents are excited at their child's first words. But as far as indulgence is concerned, I believe Finwë was more than generous with it when it came to his firstborn.

Asi nebavilo, ale vypadalo by to lip, vsechny tyhle digitani malovanky maji barvy kde si vyberes pruhlednost, ruzny textury, ma to svetelny efekty, no a hlavne -vetsi plochy nemusis vymalovavat milimetrovou pastelkou jak v matersky skolce.
