I've decided to redo my egyptian coil guide, just to make it a bit cleaner and professional.

Egyptian coiling has been going on for over 3,000 years, and can be found on all kinds of artisan crafts, ranging from pottery, sculpture, ect. For what we will be doing, we will be using metal. By the end of this guide, you will be on your way to be making a beautiful egyptian coil bracelet!

Materials

Jewlery pliers:

1 round-nose
1 flat-edge
1 wire cutter/nipper

Wire:

20 guage copper wire, roughly 1-2 spools that are about 8 ft. each.

*(Note: there are multiple colors you can use. Feel free to use gold, silver, red, blue, ect. However, the material that they are coated in will rub off if you scrap the edge too hard)*

Where to get the materials

*You can buy them at any craft store. This includes Hobby Lobby, Micheals, Joanns, ect. *

Ok, now let's get started!!!!

1) First, file down the starting end of the coil. Filing prevents the wire from becoming too sharp, or from snagging on clothes or other jewelery. Make sure you become used to this, since you will be filing a lot.

2) Cut one 6-inch strip of wire. File down each end.

3) Grab your round-nose plier and your wire strip. On each end of the strip, curl the end so that it forms a loop.

4) Next, grab your flat-edge plier. Grip the loop and let it coil. You should be going in a circular motion, and there should be no large gaps when the wires are on top of another. Do this to both ends until you have 1 inch between.

5) With your round-nose plier, grasp the middle of the 1 inch gap so that your plier tip is in the center. Make sure your coils are facing down while doing so- this will ensure that it make what I call an "elephant face." (Two eyes and a trunk-like loop).

6) Now with your flat-edge plier, grab the two coils so that they are both flat and between the plier. With your finger, bend "trunk loop" over the plier edge.

7) At this point, make sure you have done steps 1-6 twice now. Otherwise, this part won't make any sense unless you do so.
Now, take both of your finished coils and link them together by sliding one coil underneath the other.

8) Continue doing this until you have enough coils around your wrist to make it feel comfortable. When you have finished linking all of your coils, for the fastener, just make a coil without an "elephant trunk" loop, but instead, bring the loop in together so that it is straight.

9) When your completely done, take your fingers and gently press down the coils to the side. So instead of looking flat like this "----", it should look more like this "^". By slightly pressing down the coils to each side, it will give the bracelet more volume.

Tips

*Make sure your pliers are in good working conditions. Be sure the springs aren't broken. Test out the pliers and practice making some test coils before you start on the real thing

*I find that the fatter the loop in the "elephant trunk", the easier it is to slide and link to the other coil

*Keep filing each end after you cut
