Description My make-up for the character/prosthetic student competition for IMATS Sydney 2010!! I was given two quite large overlapping pieces for the face as well as panda ears. I was a bit stressed out about the floppy ears as they couldn't go over my models own ears and they didn't really go well with my design, but finally decided to put them on his neck. It was quite a challenging day, but oh my what a great experience!) Unfortunately I did not take home a prize today but I have to say I think all the other contestants were really great and I was really happy to be one of them

Heyy ! This looks really good !
I really like what you did with the prosthetic pieces!
I just got accepted for the Imats New York show in Character/prosthetics as well ! I was curious, do they give you any kind of prosthetic pieces? Like, they are random pieces that they pick for you?
I'm finding it quite stressful thinking about it now, since you don't know what kind of pieces they will give you.

I think you did a great job working the panda ears. I would have been stressed as well ^^ it's not an easy piece to accomodate with a lot of designs. ^^

Hi! Thanks, and congratulations on getting accepted for the NY show! Wow, that's so exciting

About the competition, yes they do give you completely random prosthetic pieces. So be prepared for everything, like bringing a bald cap in case you get a very large forehead piece and can't use the wig or hat you brought. When they hand your model the pieces, make sure he/she is in full costume already (it's a good idea to have your model in most of the costume before you get there in the morning). Even though they never look at your design, I think they do look at the costume (last year some of the models who showed up in a witch costume got witch noses, warts, etc). It may seem unfair as some people will get easier and fewer pieces to apply than others but it's really what you make of it. Don't get stuck in your design, just see what works best with the pieces you got. I spent too much time worrying about how to incorporate the huge ears (which weren't hollow) in my original design when I should have just come up with a new one. I had no idea they weren't going to look at our sketches later and that the design I had spent so many days drawing didn't really matter.

I hope this was of any help, it's just a few things I wish I had known before I entered the competition It is a really fun day though, so enjoy it! I bet NY IMATS is super awesome. I got to meet Tom Savini last year in Sydney which was a really big moment for me Good luck, you have an awesome portfolio and I am sure you will do very well!!

xx
