Description
There you have it. The result of me going through a “GARGH, ANIME, WHO-HOOOOO!!!!!”-phase and the consecutive re-read of my favourite manga. I had to go and draw Kenshin and Kaoru’s son.

There ya have him, lil’ Kenji approx. 15 years old. Watsuki himself basically said this one would grow up into a cocky little bastard, what with his natural talent for swordsmanship (and I guess quite a bit of “golden child”-neurosis enforced by his overwhelmingly loving parents).

“That’s not what Kenji looks like!” I hear those of little faith who have accepted the final OVA Seisouhen as the ending to the series scream.

Here’s my two cents concerning that (and hence also quite a bit of a spoiler, if not THE SPOILER for teh OVA, so don’t read the next paragraph if you’re still intending to see it)

Watsuki said he likes to end his stories on a happy smile. As in Happy Ending, dudes.
Does Shinta and Kaoru spending most of their freaking married life apart with Kaoru dumbly waiting for him in the Dojo, only for both of them finally dying of leprosis upon the moment of reunion, count as a happy ending? On what planet?!?!?! Seriously, the Kaoru from the manga would’ve gone after him to drag him back to Tokio by his no-longer-existent ponytail herself, all the while cursing and mumbling and swinging the occasional bokken towards his head. Or at least not have sat back in all her leprosis-ridden glory and said “Ok, hun. I’ll have a beer and your slippers ready for the eventual return. Nevermind the part where you don’t see your own son growing up, which will finally lead to him hating you. Quite understandably. Fight the good fight. Only... without that sword of yours. I’m not even asking anymore. Go on, chopchop!”. And don’t give me any of that “understanding and assistance”-crap. Sometimes the bloody Ruoroni just needs a good kick up his arse. And Manga Kaoru is just fine to deliver that.

That being said, I’ll settle for the ending of the manga, which a) I’ve read ages (3 years) before seeing the ending of the ova (some 3 weeks ago), so it is implanted in my head anyways. And b) was drawn by Watsuki himself, hence has the bigger authority anyways .

And since we never see a grown Kenji in the Manga, I just made him up. Hope you like him. I was simply bored out of my mind yesterday, and couldn’t come up with anything truly original (the crux of the fanartists. Not that I don’t do any original stuff – right now I am working on a 40x25 inch oil painting on canvas, which looks like crap but is tons of fun – I just don’t feel like uploading that , so I doodled around, playing with watsuki’s style a bit, and after a while this lad here started tumbling out.

There is a coloured version (though not exactly one done with much love), but as always everyone can feel free to colour it, as long as you credit me for the lineart.

Well, after this deviation comment of magnitude, I am off again, enjoying the Soccer World Cup in my homecountry and drawing the occasional fanart sketch. Don’t let go of all hope, some HP art is to come again, once my unfaithful bitch of a muse decides to come back. I am not letting this turn into a dead account.
