Description
A poster for my (yet to be started) comic book series, Undertow
You've already been introduced to the main protagonist,
A bottlenose dolphin named Neave, and her pet epaulette shark, Loot.
Now meet her companions!
The sea otter named Scutt, and his friend
The long beaked common dolphin x atlantic spotted dolphin named Coron.
Coron has had many name and design changes and I'm still not sure I'm satisfied! Why is he so difficult?!Ā Ā I think I like this new name and design but we'll see lol.
This is my first otter drawing as well so I'm happy with how Scutt turned out! He is adorable.
This is also the BIGGEST canvas I have ever painted on XD The original is over 8300px high and over 6000px long XD
My computer didn't like me by the end of it haha. But I do hope for this to one day be a poster for the comic so I wanted to be able to print it big in the future
There is a lot of things I love about this painting! And so many things I don't. Why can't it be perfect, exactly the way I want it?
Oh well oh well oh well.
Overall I'm very happy with this! It took many attempts and many days to complete. Now I'll sit back and enjoy it.
Edit: Some things had to be fixed! A lot better now <3

i know this is literally a year old and things have changed and Coron is now a bottlenose and everything but i'm super slow with catching up on comments and I STILL LOVE THIS. the adventures of zenith have forever imprinted a love of ceta comics in my brain, so everyone who's announcing or working on such a project gets my full love and support

Project not going very strong at the moment. I'm so busy and worn down with work I haven't art'ed much at all lately! When I'm not working 6 day weeks constantly, I hope to eventually get to it. My perfectionist side gets in the way but I just have to push through it because the story in my head won't go away! (even if it does keep changing XD Always changing for the better though!)

I'm wondering, will we see this common dolphin design return later since you changed his species? ( And made him look like he's in horrible pain D: )

I don't think so. I do like his markings though so maybe I can use them as some side character or something!Ā
Sad that this poster isn't relevant anymore. I really loved it. I will have to go back to this painting again and add in the REAL Coron. There are other things I could fix as well while I'm at it.Ā

Ah, I love how cute and dog-like Loot turned out here. I also really like how you've drawn the eyes on the characters, and the shading on them, subtle work.

The comic is still a little while off but I am making progress! Most of my time is spent trying to flesh out the story as that's the most important aspect for me. And trying to create likeable characters with deep personalities and interesting arcs. Hard!
But painting the characters is definitely helping with inspiration. I came up with a few ideas and dialogues just from drawing this one. I'll be making a few more posters, I think!

I love it when character traits and dialogues come to you when you least expect it! it makes sense that your brain churns out more of that kind of stuff while engaged in artistic activity, as opposed to just sitting down with pen and paper trying to hammer everything out

And I hear you on large canvases and dying computers. My poor old laptop already starts to burn when I create a wee bit too many layers on 2000 x 2000 size.

Thank you! I'm excited about Scutt's character and can't wait to share him. I like the dynamic he brings to the group, particularly visually. A 'human-like' form goes well with the dolphins.
Haha, yes must try and keep the layers to a minimum, but then I have about 4 layers for each character so it adds up!
I was actually impressed how my computer handled the large file. It was fine until I started trying to use huge brushes in the BG and it would be super laggy.Ā Can't complain about that!Ā
