Description this is something i worked on for last fall's Ren Fest.
i was working on it at school but when i started shaping it for its purpose, i got too many stupid questions from schoolmates.
there is a better way to shape the cups, but i was in a hurry for the festival and i'm small enough to get away without a cup.
hopefully i'll remember to grab the rest of the costume from the car and will have a full picture one day.

by the way i hate being in front of a camera and i didn't know how to pose - so there i am looking thoroughly zoned out.

Beautiful top I like it!
As for the preheating the thing - DON'T put it in a microwave oven! Unless you really love plasma and sparkles and broken microwave ovens and such I usually just keep my chainmail close to my body for some time or just put it on without preheating.. Unlike you said, metal heats up pretty quickly.

looks nice.fits nice.
as usually if the measures of a client are known

I usually have problems with bigger pieces unless I can see how it looks on a client

why not adding some flat persian 3in1 straps?

anyway - good work I thought only guys like making such things (for their ladies especially )

i actually felt very comfortable with it. it's not until you take the thing off that you realize how snug it was.

I'm extremely impressed that you made this top! My ex-gf used to make all kinds of outfits that were really cool, but I have to admit that she never did anything with chain mail
This is very nice! ..and as far as the posing in front of the camera goes... you look like a natural to me. All it takes is a little more confidence and you could definitely be a great model, because you really have a great look. gorgeous!!!!

thanks a lot - for the boost of confidence and all.

you can give me wire and pliers any day but if you give me a needle and thread - even with a pattern or someone showing me i cannot sew. so i guess it's an even trade-off - maybe your ex has it better though because of the cost of materials...

thanks. by any chance have you ever seen [link] ? it's the best site i've seen for info about chainmail, and it has huge galleries of various works, from armour, to clothing, to sculptures, all made of chainmail.

Let's see - for starters, if you can, learn how to make one with a seam. the shape will come out better. all i know about that is each cup has three triangles in it - a guy tried showing me how once and i've stared at them online but it hurts my head trying to figure out how to link the triangles.

the reason mine is all solid is that i was pressed for time and had to make two (one for my friend).

the one i'm wearing (with the rows going sideways) is practical because i can make steep sides, i have more control over what the sides do. a drawback is that when worn, it is extremely flat.

the one i made for my friend has vertical rows. it is practical because in the end we managed to gain a bit of shape (by pinching the sides with smaller rings) a drawback is that we couldn't make such steep vertical edges, so in general it was much more rounded above the breasts than mine. (it may appeal to someone else, but not me.) I also think that it was a little more likely to be see-through because of the pull of the rings - putting a simple liner in will fix this.

hope i made sense and didn't bore you

yeah it made sense. The triangle thing wouldnt be unlike making a coif, just not as long. Thanks.

Very nice work. I'd imagine that would be very cold to wear without anything under it. And maybe a little revealing too. o.o
You're cute, though. Er, you have a nice.. bottom half. XD I mean, it's all nice. Damn I sound shallow.. You're pretty. There.

Thanks. and you have no idea how cold it was. i started trying to sit on it a while before checking to see what more needed to be done - but that didn't warm it up much.

Revealing? yes but only from my angle, when i noticed i immediately made my friend swear that she couldn't see.

I suppose i am an amateur. I never considered a distinction although since i gave it thought, there is.
I first started making this stuff about seven months ago.

PS: That sure makes me feel good.
